- markstory, on 12/13/2007, -1/+36Pretty awsome considering the limited horsepower of the eeePc. I don't think macos or vista would run that well on an eeepc. Congrats to the KDE team.
- leinir, on 12/13/2007, -1/+19Well, that would be because that particular part of artwork is not yet completed. The panel (yes, it's not a dock, check wikipedia on what one of those is) currently uses the graphics used for applets, which is obviously not designed for the panel. So... there you go ;)
- Ellipsys, on 12/13/2007, -0/+16Funny to watch you troll with a Firefox icon.
- TacticalPenguin, on 12/13/2007, -1/+17Sigh. As I have told 5-10 other people:
The point in this is not capability, it is mobility. Before this thing, laptops this size started aroun $1000 and went up.
Oh, and with your extra $46, you also get 4-6 extra pounds and 3x the volume. - andycr512, on 12/13/2007, -0/+15Runs the same programs as any Linux PC.
- Phocion55, on 12/13/2007, -0/+14Funny in a pathetic kind of way.
- bentrop, on 12/13/2007, -3/+16I just had to re-read schestowitz's comment to make sure we both read the same one. I still don't know how any sane person could see it as "bashing" in any direction. I have to conclude that you, sir, are most likely not a sane person.
- wired2Linux, on 12/13/2007, -2/+14That looks like it's running really smooth, Glad to see KDE catching up with the rest of the GUI world, Maybe i'll switch back now.
- Dmitrik, on 12/13/2007, -0/+12Knowing it's KDE, you will always be able to configure that.
And for now, KDE developers are probably really busy finishing some last lines of code, some big clock should be the last of their concern... Although I bet they will change that when KDE4 is about to release.
I think we must say big thanks to KDE programmers, who contribute their time and skills, without anything in return, to create something as magnificent as KDE4. - dualscreenman, on 12/13/2007, -0/+12KDE isn't an OS.
So unless you do this to all Linux stories, you shouldn't be talking.
..oh wait, I think you having been going "Linsux" on several stories. :/
Nevermind. I suppose I shouldn't feed the trolls. - schestowitz, on 12/13/2007, -12/+23The Eee's natural O/S is KDE-based. Hopefully they'll replace Xandros (*cough* patent tax *cough* ) with a KDE4 distro by the time they do their next series of models (April 2008, IIRC). They won't offer Vista any time soon (possibly never) and KDE 4 compares more than favourably with XP.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -0/+11you can resize it you know.
- bentrop, on 12/13/2007, -1/+11So you decide to complain about that by replying to the one comment, where he obviously doesn't? I'm sorry, but that still doesn't make you a very sane person ...
- blewsdawg, on 12/13/2007, -0/+10I'm definitely getting myself one of these after Christmas. For that matter, at the price, I can probably afford to get one for my daughters as well.
- caoilte, on 12/13/2007, -1/+11It's actually a bit of a mishmash of KDE and Gnome (Pidgin for instance instead of Kopete). Seems like a bit of a waste of memory to me, but I can see how most end users won't care too much.
- RedHerringHack, on 12/13/2007, -0/+9This thing is going to explode. I am waiting till after Christmas to buy 2.
- BornSlacker, on 12/13/2007, -1/+9As TacticalPenguin rightly says - the Asus EEE isn't supposed to be a replacement for a 'normal sized' laptop. It's niche is that it's a fully featured PC that you can lug around with you on a day to day basis without feeling like you are carrying a house brick around in your bag.
- DarkDragon, on 12/13/2007, -0/+7I logged in just to block you. Why don't you disable the Linux/Unix section, or do check boxes evade your Neanderthal brain capacity?
- Optimaximal, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7Which is the reason why it's called a Release Candidate. It's the 21st century term for 'Beta' (with Beta being the buzzword for 'Alpha' and Alpha really meaning 'jeez, we really shouldn't have let this out of the door')
- Optimaximal, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7Heh, I see what you did there...
Knobsack - inactive, on 12/13/2007, -9/+15Pity that dock takes over 30% of the screen estate.
- otoro, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5the spec only looks low end on the paper. it's really faster than some of the desktops out there.
- wolf08, on 12/14/2007, -0/+5Somehow I get the feeling that you don't understand the purpose of the Eee...
- PeachCobbler, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4looks like the new KWin to me.
- DeFragger, on 12/13/2007, -3/+7Pretty Snazzy! Nice work on KDE4 folks!
ttyl - columb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3I like that clock.
- gr4yscale, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3How do you guys like your EEE PC? I'm thinking of selling my full sized laptop to buy 2...one for my wife, and one for me. I'm afraid it won't be powerful enough and won't have enough screen real estate for what I want to do, though.
Anybody have issues with the screen resolution or speed? - flamingmb, on 12/13/2007, -3/+6i hope to god you dont "talk to me later."
- kaplanfx, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3The Eee has a low res screen. In my opinion it's the key weakness of the machine, I've seen 4 inch screens with the same resolution. And it's not the vertical res so much as the horizontal. A 7 inch screen is fine, as long as it's got enough resolution.
- jesperht, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Yes - It's the new KWin.
- dukeinlondon, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2kde 4 looks awsome. Just wish the eeepc had bluetooth for internet access through my phone....
- ungamedplayer, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Because the dock is just a graphical widget. Defaults are not "set" at the moment, they save that kind of bling for public release to wow you.
- PJBovoNox, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3Still won't fix the annoying screen resolution being slightly too small problem.
- emehrkay, on 12/13/2007, -2/+4Kool.
- dogson, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2i bet it has a "autohide" function
- penno, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2When we remember we're all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained.

- oobuntu, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3how long till apple invade this niche with their own machine? not long i reckon.
- Ademan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2So this is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know if that was compiz-fusion or the new KWin?
- ninja0, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2thats bitchin. i want one!!
- joltjake, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I didn't say that kde was an operating system, because it's obviously not. I am merely making the observation that there have been tons of stories on digg about what the Eee pc can run.
- Cogboy, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Screen resolution is the biggest downfall for these. It is usable, but not particularly comfortable.
Despite that though, I am really enjoying mine. I have Ubuntu 7.10 installed with compiz-fusion and it runs just fine. even have the wifi drivers patched for injection which makes it very usefull considering the portability of it.
If they came out with a model with a larger screen i would replace it but otherwise i couldn't be happier with it. - Ademan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2So long as we're nit picking...
KDE is a Desktop Environment not a window manager... - DarkDragon, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3KDE is a WM not an OS
- trenchfever, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2That is the only weakness IMHO. At least 1024*786 and I'm sold. It should at least have been an option. I would gladly pay more.
- InorganicMatter, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1KDE4 is bloated and offers nothing special over KDE3.5. (I am being serious here, but gee, does that ever sound familiar....)
- fyanardi, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Hey don't insult Neanderthal, they had bigger brain capacity compared to modern human.. Maybe other species brain capacity to represent momsshizzle's brain?
- 8270369, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1It's a nice secondary PC. It will not become your primary PC any more than an iPhone would.
- nkthen, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Yes, this is cool...
http://www.asuseee.biz - fyanardi, on 12/14/2007, -0/+1Confirmed.. it's the new KWin
