- EGOvoruhk, on 01/06/2008, -3/+66I hate to sound so superficial, but that looks beautiful. I'm considering a switch from GNOME, or at the very least, giving KDE a legitimate shot
- schestowitz, on 01/06/2008, -4/+47FTA: "While Konqueror has retained its ability to manage files (and cook coffee) dolphin is written specifically for this task."
Well, Konqueror can also cook fish:// - Kragnerac, on 01/06/2008, -6/+47January 11, the day the world is Konquered.
- CloseTheCode, on 01/06/2008, -2/+25They already have. It's called KUBUNTU.
- Klowner, on 01/06/2008, -1/+22Maybe it already does, and the config options to enable the features were removed in the name of user-friendliness ;-)
- DivineMonkey, on 01/06/2008, -4/+24This actually looks good enough to move me away from Gnome.
- lukas88, on 01/06/2008, -1/+19Don't worry, it isn't superficial. People often unconsciously associate beauty of design with functionality of design.
- Klowner, on 01/06/2008, -2/+17Except it gets redheaded stepchild treatment most of the time. Kubuntu's little package updater aptitude is butt ugly compared to the nice updater in Ubuntu Gnome. Seems like I heard they're trying to change that though.
- kazamx, on 01/06/2008, -0/+14KDE 4 is going to be fantastic, but this version isn't. its going to be like OSX. the very first release had a lot of promise but wasn't really a replacement for OS9. By the time we hit 10.2 though it was simply amazing. KDE will be the same. Its fantastic now, but when we get 4.2 you will look back and think, now we have hit the big time.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -3/+17No you can't hack my PC because I have the Norton.
- CloseTheCode, on 01/06/2008, -3/+16Since Vista is an operating system, and KDE is a desktop environment (the clue was in the name), it CAN'T be Vista all over again.
- dystopianray, on 01/06/2008, -1/+14What limitation are you talking about?
- popothebright, on 01/06/2008, -0/+12Looking forward to the next full Kubuntu release!
- UKsHaDoW, on 01/06/2008, -1/+13This really looks nothing like os x.
- CloseTheCode, on 01/06/2008, -2/+14+1 to what you said =)
- etx313, on 01/06/2008, -4/+15KDE 4 better be kickass, I'm getting sick of the hype.
- bgmowen, on 01/06/2008, -2/+12Epic Fail
- moshinator, on 01/06/2008, -4/+14Wow really impressive. It actually turned out a lot better than I thought. The KWin window manager seems like a great addition.
- Greg2b, on 01/06/2008, -1/+10Never really tried KDE because I thought, it was ugly. Maybe now I'll actually try it out and possibly switch from Gnome.
- Irco, on 01/06/2008, -0/+8dude, you only managed to make yourself look stupid.
- Disfnord, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7So what's the point of having gigs and gigs of ram if you spend all your time making sure they don't get used?
- HerbertScrunge, on 01/06/2008, -3/+10Wait - your surname is "Computer Illiterate"?
- cmost, on 01/06/2008, -3/+10Because some people don't want to memorize and/or type large, archaic commands in order to do anything on their computer. Let's be realistic shall we?. The days of command-line only computing are over. Any modern OS is going to support a nice-looking, resource intensive GUI because people want to Ooh and Ahh when they use their computers.
- Rammsteined, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7Use wine: http://winehq.org/
- Telexen, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7KWin IS the KDE Window manager, it's not an addition...it's just been improved.
- Darkhacker, on 01/06/2008, -0/+6You'll be sadly disappointed then until KDE 4.2. This initial release is still buggy, feature incomplete, and is mostly designed for testers, early adopters, and developers to begin porting their applications.
- xptweakerntn, on 01/06/2008, -1/+7for those that aren't spiffy in linux, just like xdvx, don't run his command, it'll remove all your files. and besides, xdvx, it has to be run as root to really be effective...just letting you know. also, i dugg down all your comments, hack me!
- canthraxp, on 01/06/2008, -2/+8xdvx > /dev/null
- UKsHaDoW, on 01/06/2008, -0/+6"Elephants dream" open source movie :)
- Klowner, on 01/06/2008, -1/+7so you use aalib to view all your pr0n I assume?
- killtherebel, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5And that is a good thing
- potterboy, on 01/06/2008, -2/+7You know linux is becoming mainstream when my mom, Mrs. Computer Illiterate, is getting excited about it. She says on my computer it looks "very clear" Waiting for a Fedora update.
- directrix13, on 01/07/2008, -0/+5Supposedly wine itself works with steam. After installing MS TTF Core Fonts.
- drlog, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5Yeah, 4 sure. I am a gnome guy but I will definitely give this a go! Could be some more linux awesomeness coming to my desktop soon :)
- antitab, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5I retract my snide comment before based on the developer comments – this is looking SOLID (no pun intended). Rather than whine about Plasma not being 100% fleshed out in time for release, I'm finding myself looking forward to how it will expand. The foundation is down, and the foundation looks quite remarkably good. The graphics have been refined a bit, and will probably continue to be refined for a good few months afterwards. This is encouraging for free desktop fans. Integrated compositing, integrated metadata search subsystems, other important subsystems that lack standardization on Linux desktops, this is good. Cheers.

- Zanneth, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4I'm glad that Linux developers are finally putting some consideration into the look of the interface. That's something that has long noticeably separated the Linux desktop from other Desktop OSes.
- digerati1338, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4Adobe releases a lot of its stuff for linux. If you're referring to pdf, That's included in most linux distros by default now.
Most windows apps run under Wine. The ones that do work really well, you don't even need an emulator. - manutdfan2850, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4i logged in just to digg this
- Philluminati, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4I think the common Print dialog was one of those features where they were said "we don't want to add those options for complexity".
- a0peter, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4For me this assumption has worked great with computers, but not so great with the opposite sex...
- martalli, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4I have to admit that is a confusing statement...since 4.0.0 is in the cvs repositories, it is only a matter of compiling them for the distro. Maybe they are waiting a few days, so that kubuntu, suse, and so on can produce some reasonable packages for their distros.
- RyeBrye, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3I think you meant "subconsciously" - or else you know some very talented people.
- canthraxp, on 01/06/2008, -1/+4@xdvx
He was quoting that WoW kid that tried scam another player:
http://www.markeedragon.com/screenshots/data/3019/ ... - Giga, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3I'm not sure he needed that clarification...
- Philluminati, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3I agree with what your saying cmost, but archaic isn't a word I'd use to talk about the command line, especially since most modern linux apps have all their functionality exposed to the command line.
- lucasmaximus, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Or you can run KDE 4.0 on windows
- Greg2b, on 01/06/2008, -1/+4lol at this linux "god".
- Jammerdelray, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Any distros using kde 4 final yet?
- CloseTheCode, on 01/06/2008, -4/+7So does your mom, and that guy you heard her with last night wasn't daddy. You lose.
