- inactive, on 08/31/2008, -60/+311It´s like a house were you live in.
With Apple you´re locked inside.
With MS you have doors but no key.
With Linux, you´re homeless. - wontstoptalking, on 09/01/2008, -39/+164I use Windows XP. I do not use Linux, though I have a Linux virtual machine for testing out Linux software.
Obviously, I'm a moron because I don't use Linux, so bury me. - shutupdangit, on 09/01/2008, -2/+126A summary of Microsoft's new ad campaign:
"Apple computers? What's up with that?" - alliekins619, on 09/01/2008, -15/+116But it's quite the fixer-upper. It's got two, maybe three walls to start with, and before you build the couch (by hand) you need to find and install the carpet package, which then throws a floor dependency error. Also there's a good chance you're going to light it on fire accidentally if you're not 100% sure what you're doing.
- ferrariman60, on 09/01/2008, -16/+104But sometimes the house randomly has its rooms painted different colors, and you need to be a complete geek to do something as simple as change a lightbulb without burning the house down.
- Vadi0, on 08/31/2008, -10/+85Seems like they're throwing out $300 million out to the wind, hoping it'll change something.
I don't think I'll take my computer advice from Jerry Seinfeld for one. - inactive, on 08/31/2008, -52/+119$300 million in advertising doesn't make Vista suck any less.
- ferrariman60, on 09/01/2008, -20/+85"For the Linux-savvy, the Microsoft tagline is beyond belief."
Right, because everyone is frickin 'linux savvy.' Give me a break. Sure, you can touch everything in linux, but at the same time, you can't even install a damn screensaver without needing to look online for directions. I think this guy is missing the point.
And 3 pages? Come on. - MKautz, on 09/01/2008, -20/+83Who needs Windows? Your average user. Your average user doesn't care about, nor need, nor want anything to do with Linux. They want a machine that will get them online to check their email and their fantasy football standings. They don't need the freedom to compile a kernel if they need to because they don't know how, or care to do so. When is the Linux blogging community going to realize that they are not the average user??
- aelias, on 09/01/2008, -9/+71Vista doesn't suck. In fact it's been outstanding since I installed it on a machine that didn't suck.
- DarkShroud, on 09/01/2008, -3/+64Linux is the IKEA of operaing systems.
- aywwts4, on 09/01/2008, -2/+59sudo apt-get install jacuzzi
- lukedamonkey, on 09/01/2008, -15/+68With apple you have a nice, white house, with one bed, a couch, and a tv. But you have to pay a enormous rent.
With windows you have a brown house, everything seems fine in it but your windows can't shut, so you have to make a fire underneath them to keep the robbers out.
With linux, all your walls are complete and you must put a roof on the house, and this house often needs more work than the others. - DarkShroud, on 09/01/2008, -0/+39Poor DOS users, just don't know when to give up.
- kettlechips, on 09/01/2008, -0/+39"You can't eat them, they're not shaped like apples, whats the deal?"
- crazyhorse13, on 09/01/2008, -6/+41Basically, Linux is a free house that comes disassembled in a giant box.
- davidmwilliams, on 09/01/2008, -1/+33"Windows, not walls"
- snuggl, on 09/01/2008, -1/+33pfft, just because we amiga users are a small group doesn't mean we get offended by your petty discussions.
- batmanz, on 09/01/2008, -22/+51Maybe people who, you know, have to actually do work.
- Sanchez, on 09/01/2008, -2/+31Walls are good, they keep the roof from falling.
- Majora26, on 09/01/2008, -0/+24It's a commercial about nothing!
*bass guitar interlude* - Avaseal, on 09/01/2008, -3/+27worked for Bose didn't it?
- T440, on 09/01/2008, -3/+26But without walls, aren't Windows useless?
- gringer, on 09/01/2008, -1/+23The full, old quote:
In a world without walls and fences - who needs windows and gates? - limezor2, on 09/01/2008, -12/+34Windows sucks, Apple sucks, Linux sucks.
- Ajblu, on 09/01/2008, -0/+21sudo apt-get purge cockroaches
- raydeen, on 09/01/2008, -7/+27Look online? Hmmm. Last time I installed a screensaver it was through Synaptic. One click to search and maybe two clicks to install. No brainer.
- colonels1020, on 09/01/2008, -3/+22So... what's the tagline?
- raydeen, on 09/01/2008, -2/+19It's the default software installer in Ubuntu. In most LInux distros, you don't have to search the net for software. You launch the built in repository tool (in this case Synaptic) and do a search for 'screensaver' or whatever you're looking for. Most times, you'll find what you need and it will be a one or two click install. Imagine if 'Add/Remove Programs' in Windows had the ability to find thousands of programs and install them automatically. That's pretty much what it's lilke. Sometimes you will have to go out on the net to find what you need, but it's rare. There have been very few times I've had to actually search for a file or program and download it and go through a lengthy install process but instructions are included. It ain't hard.
- jakobmakob, on 09/01/2008, -8/+25That's the reason the Mojave Experiment is such a great idea. I can confidently say that my Vista machine is just as stable, if not more stable than my XP machine.
- phirestyle, on 09/01/2008, -25/+42Hello, I'm a Mac, and I'm an alternative wanna-be faggety *****. I'm not a real designer, producer, or programmer, but you can't tell because of my "uber" cool contemporary specs. In reality, I use my faggety Mac to do the same ***** I used to do on my old PC that used XP. Now, however, I can be a pretentious little ***** and try to convince EVERYONE else (who doesn't give a ***** about my opinion) that my choice of OS is better.

Apple = Fad. It's a lot like fashion. You laugh at the older one, but you follow the new one RELIGIOUSLY. Word. Pun intended, for the other half of digg.com, the Atheist faggety ***** who diss Christianity every chance they get. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -10/+27"Who needs Windows in a Linux world without walls?"
That's easy, 90.69% of the desktop market as of August 2008. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -1/+18That comment left me cockeyed.
- samthurston, on 09/01/2008, -7/+24I work from a linux machine every day. I open office docs from clients in OO.org, I've got photoshop CS2, and I even have IE installed through wine for testing purposes.
What work do you think you do that can't be done on a linux machine? - GeorgeCostanza, on 09/01/2008, -1/+17Bose = Buy Other Sound Equipment
- Demens, on 09/01/2008, -9/+25The biggest flaw of Vista is advertising and the bad name given by people who just don't know. If this thing works, Vista will surely suck much less. (in the eyes of a first time user)
- raydeen, on 09/01/2008, -5/+21The main benefit I see to Linux is that people who use it are actually learning how to use their computer and not just being taken along for the 'ride'. I grew up in the '80's when owning a computer meant you had to know how to to use it and not just click an icon. Linux brings back that feeling and experience for me. Now not everyone wants to go through this experience, but it would be good if they did to an extent. Rather than just getting behind the wheel and tearing down the Information Superhighway at 200 mph crashing into everything that can't get out of their way fast enough, if more people learned how to steer, we wouldn't have as many problems as we do today. It would be good if the general net population had at least a basic understanding of their wheels and how to drive. Come to think of it,maybe there should be a license to drive the Information Superhighway.
Gonna get dugg waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy down for this one I bet. - wukillabee, on 09/01/2008, -9/+24yeah a cardboard box house
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -18/+33Imagine a giant penis flying towards your mouth, and there's nothing you can do about it. And you're like "Oh man, I'm gonna have to suck this thing", and you brace yourself to suck this giant penis. But then, at the last moment, it changes trajectory and hits you in the eye. You think to yourself "Well, at least I got that out of the way", but then the giant penis rears back and stabs your eye again, and again, and again. Eventually, this giant penis is penetrating your gray matter, and you begin to lose control of your motor skills. That's when the giant penis slaps you across the cheek, causing you to fall out of your chair. Unable to move and at your most vulnerable, the giant penis finally lodges itself in your anus, where it rests uncomfortably for 4, maybe 5 hours. That's what using a mac is like.
- ksgant, on 09/01/2008, -14/+29With Apple you have a very nice house that's clean and efficient and everyone is jealous of, but you don't care because you're a snob and rarely even acknowledge your neighbors as you get into your BMW.
With MS you have a house that's kind of okay, but all the doors and windows are open and there's no locks on any of them....and occasionally there's the odd fire you have to put out that springs up for no apparent reason. But you're happy in that your house is just like 90% of everyone else's houses, and when you're not busy putting out one of the fires, you can relax in it's kick-ass game room!
With Linux you have a great fixer-upper that has potential...if you're good with building things. You try your hardest to make it look as good as the Apple guy down the block, but it doesn't....quite....get there, yet you do have some of the best security there is. Also, your house may not look as good as Apple's, but it costs a fraction of what they paid. Your neighbors get annoyed with you though as you go on and on and on about how good your house is and it's just as good as theirs and soon all houses will be like yours, any....day....now. - Noctem, on 09/01/2008, -5/+19If Explorer is crashing on you every half hour, you are doing something very wrong.
- Shirleycakes, on 09/01/2008, -0/+14Is he publicly relevant right now? At all? Or is this their attempt to nab a celebrity, ANY celebrity?
- danielsamuels, on 09/01/2008, -0/+14You get this: http://www.apple.com/retail/fifthavenue/
- noisymime, on 09/01/2008, -2/+16I bet they'd care when they realise they could've saved themselves $300 in software licenses.
- amoeba, on 09/01/2008, -2/+15Strange. I just right-click the desktop and set it's properties. Screensaver. Done. Same as I would if using XP.
- priegog, on 09/01/2008, -2/+15Oh, come on, this comment is almost as offensive for the rest of us Linux users who are not crazy zealots. Use whatever OS you want, (some of) us understand that not everyone is willing to do the extra work very often required to make a linux setup work nicely.
Mac users are fine too.
I'm feeling very loving today. - amoeba, on 09/01/2008, -8/+21umm, you don't need to compile the kernel to run Linux. Just run the install CD like you would do with XP. You can get online and check your email with Firefox and Thunderbird etc... after that.
The point is, if you want to change it, you can. - charkol, on 09/01/2008, -7/+20I personally like Vista. Say what you want, but I'm gonna keep it.
That being said, Ubuntu was fun for while it lasted but it just wasn't for me.
And I have nothing against Apple either. I like how there is different OS for people to choose between. More power to those who use Linux. - aussieNickuss, on 09/01/2008, -4/+17Good for you. Boasting your income makes you look like an elitist *****.
