Kismet can be used in conjution with gpsmap to create visual maps of the AP's and thier valued range.
I have even encorperated them into google maps to get visuals of the neighborhood and terrain.

It also collects the weak packets for use in WEP cracking. Although its not the most efficient.
I'm excited to see and try out the new support thats being developed for Broadcom chipsets. My internal wireless has mad range. - republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"If you can put up with the ridiculous amount of ads, these articles using the auditor distro are very good also.."
People still have ads?
Firefox + Adblock - TheDarkTipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Kevin use to use this on TSS back in the days.
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Kismet sounds pretty cool, but it's not available for Windows. It's ability to passively sniff network traffic to identify hidden SSIDs is nifty, but I have to assume if there's no traffic on the wireless network, Kismet wouldn't know it was there.

http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/sociable/videos.html - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1use auditor or my new favorite: backtrack. All the tools you will ever need
- nucleocide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if only I could figure out how to install the patched orinoco drivers on my slack 10.1...
- airxdata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, it isn't a port of Kismet, just a play off of the name. It is a Mac alternative, however.
- JNitz36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dude i just battled with a wpc11 linksys card on vectorlinux (based on slack) using the orinoco_cs drivers. Anyways, i can get version numbers if you need, just give me a shout.
As for kismet, i plan on trying it out. I havent got past using iwspy and the wireless tools that came with VL. Netstumbler is good for windows, but doesnt pick up all ap's. - rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Eh, Netstumbler is good enough for me :)
Especially as this is linux only (and ubuntu doesnt like my wifi card) - Netgh0st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I do a dual boot Windows XP/SuSe. So I'm running Stumbler on the Windows partition fine.
Kismet rocks I agree, but my Broadcom4306 card doesn't run with Kismet. I dont feel like getting a windows wrapper, its pointless to go through the trouble. I'm just gonna get a new card when I get the funds. One that works well with Kismet - ilikedginger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kismet wasn't too keen on my MS card, so I was never able to use it. Good program though. I hardly knew what I was doing, and I managed to install it.
- kschramm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For you Mac users out there, there is a port of Kismet called Kismac:
