- dualscreenman, on 09/13/2008, -1/+3On the contrary, for the run-of-the-mill "dumb" user it's quite usable. It's less usable for the power users who are missing certain pet features. As an example, your grandma probably doesn't whine about not having autohide, whereas plenty of power users have been ever since 4.0, and may find KDE 4.1 less comfortable for them personally. A distinction between "usable" and "usable" must be carefully made, I guess. :P
- flatfish, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1It's not going to be popular but I agree with BlackWarp.
I tried Kubuntu with KDE 4.x and I find the "K Menu" to be time consuming to navigate compared to the older version 3.x.
For example, you have to keep sliding menus to drill down to where you *think* something might be only to find out it's not there so now you have to slide things back and start again.
It's time consuming.
It can probably be configured to work differently but I couldn't figure it out in the short time Kubuntu KDE 4.x remained on my system a few days ago.
I will say that KDE 4.x looks gorgeous though even in default mode.
Very asthetically pleasing IMHO compared to say a stock Ubuntu Gnome system.
I went back to kUbuntu with KDE 3.95 and am very happy with it.
Different strokes I guess.... - anubisza, on 09/14/2008, -1/+1i find krunner in 4.1 to be much faster for finding anything (applications included) than k menu or katapult in 3.x.
- BlackWarp, on 09/13/2008, -4/+2Looks pretty promising. Let's hope KDE 4.2 doesn't suck. I love 4.1, it is loads more stable than 4.0, but in terms of usability when compared to KDE 3.9, it is rubbish.
