For this group, I think Linux is becoming more and more a viable choice. Especially since it lends itself to be so flexible in virtually any environment and IMHO requires less resources in a corporate network.
For myself, I know that I never have to worry about antivirus on my Linux machines. Simply not having to deal with all that entails in a corporate network saves me mountains of time. Also I can do things with Linux, like different types of thin client setups to name one, that are just not available on the Windows side of life. This has led us to come up with very creative configurations that save time and money overall for our corporation.
I will say that it helps that we have a Linux techie, myself, that can make all this happen. However, I will say that successful Windows admins could learn the ins and outs of Linux pretty quickly if they wanted to. The learning curve isn't what it used to be. - watcht, on 10/20/2008, -2/+6Oh for *****'s sake, there is honestly no reason to be still sitting on xp after the sp1 update of Vista, unless of course your computer is under spec'd or barely meets the *minimum* requirements of vista. While XP is still a good OS in it's own right, it's been around the block, it's time to move on. If vista urks you that much go use a Linux distro (gradual changes and updates as apposed to a sudden revamps MS does) cause it seems like Microsoft is still gonna be going the same route...i am almost sure it's just gonna be a re-badged vista.
- watcht, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Yea i was actually plus I was one of those people who thought it was steaming pile of *****, cause I had never used it and only based my thought on what others had said....cause everyone was doing it. I got a laptop with vista preinstalled, i was gonna get rid of it and replace it with xp or linux originally, but I had heard of the SP1 fixing many problems with Vista, installed that and have been happily pleased with it from that day on.

You weren't one of the people originally calling Vista a "rebadged XP", were you?
- crownedgriffin, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3I'll be waiting for Windows 7, but if that sucks as much as Vista, I'll just stick with XP x64.

So THAT'S what happened to Vista, it was merely an innocent victim of a sudden revamp! (OMG! It just came outta nowhere! :o) - wopbobaloobop, on 10/20/2008, -3/+4Agree, with watcht, Vista is fine.
Beyond that, what kind of article is this? It asks the question, "If you sit out Vista, what are your alternatives?"
Then it answers the question. XP, Mac, or Linux. The End.
Uhh.. thanks?
