- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -51/+95Wow an anti-MS linux blog
buried. - benologist, on 03/25/2009, -8/+45Buried for being an utter piece of trash. It's not even remotely interesting or about Linux on USB keys or anyone doing anything new or interesting, it's just some kid ranting about MS.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -26/+49How about Apple - they are the real ***** douchebags. Hating MS is so 1999 and it usually comes from a place of inadequacy.
- LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -1/+22As a bootable USB drive myself, I was born in 2003 and I can only hold about 256 megs of data.
- whiteknives, on 03/25/2009, -9/+27I dunno... Microsoft is pretty scared of this Conflicker-C worm. I doubt I want that on my computer. <a class="user" href="http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/128643/beware-con ... rel="nofollow">http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/128643/beware-con ...</a>
- LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -9/+26It was Microsoft's decision to create an operating system that pukes if it sees significantly different hardware when it boots next time. I don't remember this being an issue with Win9X. Obviously Linux will boot on damn-near anything.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 03/25/2009, -10/+25Doesn't XP have 90%+ Netbook marketshare? See: http://blogs.computerworld.com/study_windows_clobb ...
And hasn't Linux actually LOST huge amounts of the Netbook marketshare? See: http://www.liliputing.com/2009/03/linux-loses-more ...
And isn't everybody saying that Windows 7 will run great on Netbooks? See: http://windows7center.com/windows-7-news/windows-7 ...
Ah... nevermind. Sorry to let the facts get in the way of MS bashing. As you were. - Dubbsacc, on 03/25/2009, -1/+15More like Digg fail, when you edit a comment with links in it, it does what it did to whiteknives' post.
- Phocion55, on 03/25/2009, -1/+14I think the instant-on Linux (i.e. Xandros Presto) would "scare" Microsoft more than anything. OS functionality at your fingertips within mere seconds.....
Ah crap, MS signed a deal with Xandros?
Well played, MS.......... - LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -7/+20You're right. There are lots of good reasons to dislike Apple. However, they aren't in control of 90% of the computer industry. As users and fix-it techs, we don't have to deal with their products if we choose not to. Compare this to Microsoft and FAT32 and you can understand where I'm coming from here. We may hate FAT32 and IE, but we have to deal with them to interoperate with most of the computer world.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -2/+13i just switched to linux last night but it confuses me a little i don't even know how to change the background or install flash on it.i'm not to good with computers
- phpirate, on 03/25/2009, -1/+12There was a time I digg I used to remember where majority of the users were actual techies.

This message brought to you by the coca-cola-blog.com - LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -3/+12Didn't Ballmer recently say that Linux is a bigger threat than Mac? He also said that "unlicensed" Windows is a bigger threat than Linux though.

- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7Microsoft has stated that the Windows 7 Starter Edition which will be included with netbooks, will only allow three programs to run at once.
They hope that people will upgrade to a more expensive version of Windows 7.
http://jkontherun.com/2009/02/10/windows-7-starter ...
Linux operating systems have no restrictions on the number of programs open.
Windows 7 uses 1.24 GB of RAM, Ubuntu uses only 349 MB.
On netbooks which have less resources than laptops, this is huge difference.
http://weblog.infoworld.com/stratdev/archives/2009 ... - drex8, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7No it's not his fault. He probably happened to edit the comment after initially submitting it, and that is when Digg adds all those extraneous tags.
This is a new thing on Digg. If you don't believe me, write up a comment with link/links, and then save the reply..and then click Edit. - oxdeltaxo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7I dual boot my machine. I don't hate Microsoft, I just like having the freedom to choose.
as for apple...it's just way too expensive for my taste. - erikerikerik, on 03/25/2009, -6/+13Like the Charlie Brown Teacher said. "Wawaa wa waaa"
If some one wants linxus and wants to try it out, they will do so.
I did read this article, and tone of it is one reason why a lot of people DONT like linux "this is linux its the only way and you will LIKE IT!!!1"
As a Win7, OSx, (Super)Ubuntu user I'm really tired of these types of articles showing up. - talonh, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7See the bubonic plague for reasons to fear a flea
- tama00, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7Wow you are all small minded people. If you were interested in technology like you say you all are then you would be interested in every operating system to discover the benefits and differences of them all!
- LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7Yes, but even if they ported the OS, many programs would not be ported. For some prople, programs are the only reason a Windows install exists on our hard drives. Thus, if X86 is abandoned, Windows could lose it's edge over the competition.
- LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -0/+7What if the world abandons X86? Sure, Windows could be ported to another arch, but MS would lose the edge of having ten+ years of software that runs on it.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -5/+11Ok, let me add:
IPhone lock-in : ie no flash, copy and paste when we feel like it, browser lock-in, carrier lock-in (and with any of these - jailbreaking does not count), etc etc
OS lock-in: incremental upgrades that are charged full price.
IPod lock-in: and this one is a doozy - if MS had done this people would have been screaming bloody murder : chip that only allows hardware manufacturers who pay the apple tax to release headphones. And yes, Apple is not the poor little guy in the mp3 player market - its almost a monopoly - so what gives there?
Enough backup there for ya santa? - roxgod666, on 03/25/2009, -12/+18How did this asswipe get the first comment? Oh i know, he posts the same comment on ever story with "Microsoft" in the title.
- RonADiSH, on 03/25/2009, -2/+8If its bad for MS, its on digg

- juliocgrajales, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5good to know that the spirit of innovation and discussion about making things more open and interoperable is still alive...
- aduzik, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5This just proves my long-held belief that, although you _can_ run Linux on damn near anything, it doesn't mean you _should_.
- Frostek, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Most of them probably don't remember a world without Microsoft.
This is all they've ever known, the poor saps. :-( - Equinox1, on 03/25/2009, -1/+6NEWSFLASH: Avanost fails at english!
- LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -3/+8... just as long as you constantly re-activate the operating system.
On my laptop, if I change the IDE mode from enhahced to compatible, Vista BSODs and refuses to boot. I seem to recall XP doing things like this eight years ago, and having an OS this inflexible in 2009 is unacceptable. - HonoredMule, on 03/25/2009, -0/+5"Hey genius" yourself. And if I put everything on the harddrive so I dont need the CD/DVD any more I have even fewer headaches. - DangerCollie, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4"Hating MS is so 1999 and it usually comes from a place of inadequacy."
I find MS provides a veritable fountain of good reasons to hate them. Every time you think they've finally gotten to the bottom of the crap barrel, they dig down and find another layer of sediment to drop on their users.
It's not surprising they do it, most companies would in their place. What's a constant surprise is the way individuals and businesses take it. It's not that hard to move off their products these days, server and desktop. We did it here. Sure there were snags, but overall a lot easier than a routine MS upgrade. - LostSoul83, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4The industry has not moved past FAT32. Almost all mp3 players that are in stores rely on FAT32. If you change the FS, the device will not function. Even huge hard drives still come formatted as FAT32, like my 1 TB external one did. I hope this will change in the wake of the TomTom lawsuit though.
