- motang, on 10/30/2008, -2/+15Make sure to use Bittorrent!
- mclewell, on 10/30/2008, -1/+14Nice article.
I am downloading Intrepid right now! - inc595, on 10/31/2008, -3/+14ubuntu gets more and more polished with every release.
- newdigger, on 10/31/2008, -1/+11bittorrent. learn how to use it.
- twiztidsinz, on 10/31/2008, -1/+9I really like Vista but c'mon... that's just trollish.
- talonstriker, on 10/31/2008, -0/+5Kubuntu will solidify its spot as a second class citizen with all the users jumping ship because of KDE4.
- Corbanned, on 10/31/2008, -2/+7Wow! Sarcasm! That's original!
- CalcProgrammer1, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4...Not everyone CAN use it! I would be using torrent in no time if I could, instead, I'm sitting here hacking around with SSH trying to get the stupid tunneling to work.
- linuxlucas, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4sudo aptitude purge gdm-guest-session i believe.
- sigmaman2, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4Got it on my 6910p with ATI graphics...
It looks VERY polished! Also, I'm used to walking away for a minute while my machine boots. No need for that now. Boot time on my laptop (taking away my login time) is roughly 25 seconds. Installs and updates are slow, since everybody is slamming the servers. Not sure I like the Presence Indicator, but YMMV.
BTW, I recommend the DarkRoom theme. - Lewie, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4Do I detect...
...wait a minute! - refreshers, on 10/31/2008, -3/+7Dugg for silliness.
- TehChrisMeister, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3Really? Was that necessary?
- talkingwires, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3I agree. Sure, the KDE3 branch may not be supported as long as Intrepid, but KDE4 is just not ready. Say what you want about the KDE team's odd definitions of "beta" and "4.0", KDE4 remains a tech demo.
I'm not saying it's not an exciting tech demo though. I plan on giving it another spin when 4.2 drops next year. - spydon, on 11/03/2008, -0/+2rpgmaker, you would probably have to have a computer...
- iofthestorm, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Interesting. I dunno, I prefer KDE over GNOME so I installed Kubuntu and KDE4 but it is a little buggy still, and my laptop's ***** graphics driver doesn't help much. Using XFCE for now.
- mohdiarra, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2i think so too...
- specialK16, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2So exactly what happens when you report a post?
- bl4k3r, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2What are you talking about?
- Frostek, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2I wonder if that's one of those "streams of conciousness" I keep hearing about?
- smotpoker, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2You guys are stupid. I pretty much appreciate any deviation from the typical spam, rickrolls and pedobears. Even the actual real troll (above) got props multiple times for being inflammatory... At least this one has holiday spirit!
- arcticblue, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Yeah, openSUSE and Ubuntu are definitely the two best distros (for me at work anyway). I thought Ubuntu 8.04 was a mess and had some issues with memory usage in it so I started using openSUSE 11 and loved it. I started using Ubuntu 8.10 when the RC came out and am really enjoying it so far.
The gvfs bug with ADS authenticated SMB shares is still there (no shares show up when browsing a server; have to type the share name manually), but I found out if I used Likewise to join to the domain and log on with my domain account, the shares work like they are supposed to. Evolution has been greatly improved as well. The improved Google Calendar support made me switch back to Evolution from KMail (you can now use more than just the default calendar). The Evolution devs also FINALLY fixed the cut and pasting issue with the calendars (you could cut, but never paste. It basically just deleted your calendar entry). It also feels much faster.
I don't know why the Ubuntu devs removed the panel background that was in the RC. It was very nice looking. It gave the panel a nice transparent glassy feel to it that, IMO, looks much better than the regular flat color. - inactive, on 10/31/2008, -1/+2Actually, everybody can, it just happen that some people might have to tweak a little deeper.
- WaddleDee, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1I luv it.
- razorxpress, on 10/31/2008, -1/+2When is the video chat + share my desktop (on chat like apple) + bookmark menu (which integrated with default web browser) and icons sensibility like kde coming(very good for single click mouse)
- SteveMax, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1The problem isn't KDE4, it's (K)Ubuntu's KDE4 implementation. Use it on Suse and you'll see it's a great DE already. It doesn't have feature parity with 3.5, it lacks some and adds some others, but it's really good enough to be someone's primary environment. On 4.2 it will have all the features of 3.5, plus those that were introduced in the 4.0/4.1 series and more. Where it is implemented well, there is no reason to even think of going back to 3.5.
Now, (K)Ubuntu's KDE desktop has always been sub-par. With KDE4, they managed to make it even worse. Simple things, like Bluetooth, don't work; the system is very unstable and simply ugly; and they tried to bring Ubuntu's apps and KDE's together, but the mix simply isn't ready yet.
Don't blame KDE4 for people leaving Kubuntu; blame Kubuntu for people leaving KDE4. - talkingwires, on 10/31/2008, -4/+5"Ted did a lot of work to make the presence menu elements work with both Pidgin and Empathy because there was some uncertainty as to which would be used by default in the release. Since it all uses dbus, it should be straightforward to make it work with KDE IM clients too."
Kubuntu continues to remain a second-class citizen, I see. - librun, on 11/01/2008, -0/+0That's not completely true. Sure... some KDE users might be bailing, but in many ways I actually like KDE 4.x better than 3.5.x. OpenSUSE probably does have a better implementation of 4.x, since that's their primary desktop environment. I still like Kubuntu better since it is Debian-based.
- fwertz, on 10/31/2008, -1/+1Yay, keep openSUSE at bay!
- darkharmonics, on 10/31/2008, -1/+1Shhh dont tell everybody but the norway student server gets up to 3mb per second downloads.

They have a nice big pipe, so it should be pretty quick for non-aussies :) - mikedoth, on 10/31/2008, -3/+2Doesn't look like a big enough improvement for a download to me. Where's the new theme I read about a while back?
- fwertz, on 10/31/2008, -3/+1KNEEL BEFORE CHRIST.
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -5/+1I usually wait a few days, but d/l'ing it too.....servers are REALLY SLOW!
