- coopaloop, on 06/02/2009, -0/+24Dugg for the disclaimer..
"**In the United States it is illegal to break the encryption on encrypted DVDs. It violates the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), specifically the anti-circumvention provisions. So while copying your DVDs and keeping a copy can be considered fair use, the act of breaking the encryption using this guide is illegal in the US, so please only do this if you live in a country where you won’t be breaking any laws by doing this! haha - thenativeraver, on 06/02/2009, -0/+164) Load up AOL to post stupid comment on digg.
;-) - jjustin01, on 06/02/2009, -2/+17Dugg for the rather cute chick with her shirt unbuttoned rather low.
- HonoredMule, on 06/03/2009, -0/+12Ah, the land of the free unless a corporation disagrees.
- Rivetgeek, on 06/02/2009, -0/+11Yeah this is taking up valuable room that could be used for web comics that we all have bookmarked or pictures of misspelled signs!
- flashingcurser, on 06/02/2009, -0/+10Along with DeVeDe there is K9copy and acidrip too.
- NixiePixel, on 06/03/2009, -1/+10Thanks for the comments! The video, as are all of my tutorials, is aimed toward newbies. I hope that I can build a little library that helps get people started doing things that are, yes I know, easy to the experienced user, but maybe not so much for the newbie.
There are lots of different choices to do any particular task. That is the beauty of Linux! But I hope that my videos are still helpful to a new person without knowledge, even if many other people choose a different program. - ThantiK, on 06/02/2009, -1/+10That would make me a bad pirate...ARRRRRRRRGH!
- AdmiralAcbar, on 06/02/2009, -3/+11DVD-decrypter in Wine and Handbrake natively.
- flashingcurser, on 06/02/2009, -0/+8You mean like encoding it with the windows version of ffmpeg? And then watching it on VLC (that uses code from mplayer)?
- Jhorra, on 06/02/2009, -0/+6She's the only reason this went to the front page.
- calcm, on 06/02/2009, -1/+6A women who loves Linux, who is hot, and has red hair. Oh, my gosh I can not stand up right now....
- Stoyanov, on 06/02/2009, -0/+5http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf
- Killeroid, on 06/02/2009, -0/+5An even simpler method. Insert dvd,
1. Open the app Brasero Disc Burner and click on the Disc Copy Button
2. Choose where you want to save the file and click Copy.
Thats it. - marmotjmarmot, on 06/02/2009, -2/+7is there some problem with DeVeDe that I should know about?
- ChiaGod, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4The other good combination is DVDFab 5 and K9copy.
If there's a video that K9copy can't rip by itself (newer copy protection) then you can use DVDFab under wine to rip it to a folder, then use K9copy to either create and burn it to a 4.4GB DVD or create an mpeg4.
They even added a wizard to K9copy which makes it a snap to rip a DVD. - ATL, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4***** you
- flashingcurser, on 06/02/2009, -1/+5I don't use windows for this sort of thing, what program would that be that does everything while you're watching porn?
Handbrake is less than 10 clicks, once the codecs are installed. (You have to install codecs in windows too you know). - DivineMonkey, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Handbrake is good, i still prefer K9copy though...
- Killeroid, on 06/02/2009, -1/+5An even simpler method. Insert dvd,
1. Open the app Brasero Disc Burner and click on the Disc Copy Button
2. Choose where you want to save the file and click Copy.
or
1. Open Handbrake.
2. Select the dvd as the source
3. Click on Start to start ripping the dvd.
Thats it. - waspbr, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4dugg for gamer chick
- TheSeeker11, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3I suspect you're standing to attention with no problem.
- DJWilsonX, on 06/02/2009, -1/+4isn't brasero enough?
- shrudheuie, on 06/02/2009, -1/+4To clarify,
You mean use a $300 program (plus neccessary security costs) to open another (unkown cost) program to rip the dvd instead? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy extra DVD's? - Cowzeetgrass, on 06/02/2009, -0/+2More options are always a good thing. Choose what works for you, be happy with it, and leave everyone else the hell alone. They have the same freedom to choose as you did. Their choice isn't wrong, it's just not yours. Please excuse me, I have to fortify my defenses as I'm sure the fanboys will be approaching shortly with pitchforks and torches in tow.
- Kronos6948, on 06/02/2009, -1/+3It would've been easier if you said "2) Load OSX" instead.
- shrudheuie, on 06/02/2009, -1/+3Hell I switched my grandmother to Ubuntu so she wouldn't have to keep calling me to ask what to do about all the popups for updates, virus software, firewall software etc and so on. I set her up an Ubuntu desktop with 5 icons for the tasks she needs to accomplish. She hasn't needed tech support since. This is a lady who still has trouble with the mouse. These posts are to share information and walk newbies through how to do things easily.
- zer0mass, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1For a Windows noob what you just said isn't very obvious.
- bootup, on 06/03/2009, -1/+2I wish people would stop propagating misinformation. What is legal and illegal is for the courts to decide. Some cases were lost (2600)- but that doesn't mean it is always illegal. We still haven't seen the DMCA reach the supreme court. It could be unconstitutional.
- warp99, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1I use acidrip which is a front end for mencoder or vobcopy with the -l switch to rip multiple vobs into a single vob. With ISO rips Basero or K3B does the trick nicely.
- rpgmakr, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Amen.
- spiki, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1I use plugins to block javascript, flash, videos etc...
Didn't want to burn my time looking at some random buntu video tip before reading you comment.
Thank you dude for informing me about that cute chick with unbuttoned shirt... - bitterbug, on 06/03/2009, -0/+1Ubuntu is doing some pretty cool stuff to make things user friendly...
Like automatically determining what codecs you need to play a file and then obtaining them for you from a reputable source.
Of course VLC does a great job playing back pretty much anything on any platform.
Still, each release of Ubuntu is one step closer to being an all-purpose, easy to use OS for the masses. - Syphon0928, on 06/02/2009, -3/+4That's what I do. I am sure the linux methods are good too, but I find DVD Shrink to be such a simple way of doing it.
- pcpimpster, on 06/02/2009, -2/+2I have a 30' dell so I have a lot of real estate while I bate.
Rip with DVDFabDecryptor. Seems to work better then DVDDecryptor - have errors from that app. DVDShrink to get it to a single layer DVD size.
DVDDecryptor to burn the iso produced by DVDShrink.
Codecs... who needs that, I keep the full DVD image on my server for playback using VLC on my HTPC
Like 10 clicks. - bootup, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1I wish people would stop propagating this myth that GNU/Linux is hard. It is MUCH easier to rip a DVD than this tutorial suggests. Just because they did up some tutorial on an insane method doesn't make GNU/Linux hard. It just means the tutorial producer was uninformed and a bunch of MS / Apple whiners dugg it to point out how hard it is-despite it isn't really.
- isaiasv, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1and linux roxxxxx
- enevitable, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1For dvds I used to like dvd shrink.
But for blu rays anydvd is hands down the best. Dvdfab6 doesn't come anywhere near it in quality.
and I prefer full iso backups on my server, much cleaner and you can always rip to mkv later. - skrowl, on 06/03/2009, -1/+1The techniques listed on this page WILL NOT work on newer DVDs with ArCOSS protection - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARccOS_Protection.
Thoggen hasn't even been updated since June of 2008! - elleok, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0Aimersoft DVD Ripper is the most powerful one that I have used before. It has great power to rip DVD to video of all formats. You can free download here:
http://freedvdripper.org/dvdvideoconverter/dvd-rip ...
Other DVD ripper you can get from:
http://www.topsreviews.com/reviews/dvd-ripper-revi ...
Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of DVD Ripper give you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product.
For mac user:
http://macdvdconverter.com/mac-dvd-ripper.html - skibur, on 06/04/2009, -0/+0Once I do that Jack, can I just burn that .iso onto a DVD and play it on my DVD player?
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+0Get a life.
- rpgmakr, on 06/03/2009, -3/+2What a stupid post. How did this get to the FP? I thought that at least it would list several tools for dvdripping. If you want to rip dvds you can use DVD::Rip. Is really good, not very intuitive tho... but has every feature you need.
- jack1323, on 06/03/2009, -2/+0Or you could just run one command:
dd if=/dev/dvd of=dvd.iso - Philbert, on 06/02/2009, -5/+1Uh OK, but you have to use linux.
- zbeast, on 06/03/2009, -5/+1This crap is not worth your time, most new dvd's use not just css for encryption but a combination of tricks to keep
you from copying that dvd. Bad sectors, disk size errors, more than one css encryption block per vob.
Just go to Slysoft.com and buy there copying software it works first time everytime.
it will even copy bluray disks. - inactive, on 06/02/2009, -7/+2no silly....
