- Andytom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26Apple product + Ubuntu = instant front page
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24Imagine someone trying to read and understand that title 15 years ago... it would make no sense whatsoever
- Idgit, on 10/29/2007, -2/+22Amarok has to be one of the best music players on any OS. It made my switch to ubuntu that much more enjoyable
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+23Unless one already has an iPod, it might be better just getting a music player that does not introduce complications. See http://www.youtube.com/v/YKI_w_VBoTQ
- NerveBand, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Amarok is ***** awesome. Not only is it lightweight but the fact that it uses a SQLite db is to cream over. The second it gets ported to Windows and Mac, im switching and ditching iTunes as my cross platform media player!
- archiesteel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9- Download of song lyrics from the Internet
- Wikipedia Links for Songs, Musicians and Albums
- Allows access to iPods synced with other applications
- Allows access to other devices than iPods
- Extensible through user-created scripts (tons of them on kde-apps.org)
- Fetches album covers from multiple, configurable sources
- Choice of backend engines, including enhanced controls on features such as crossfade, etc.
- Unobtrusive but informative OSD when application is minimized
- etc. - bruenig, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Put it in the wiki not on your blog, help out the community instead.
- Felshadow, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Amarok is a great music player :D built in extras like this only increase its usefulness.
- redxii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5A match made in heaven.
- mr.gates, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I've been having trouble finding an really good application to handle downloading and syncing podcasts to my ipod for Linux. Any suggestions?
- xrenjrvt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Try this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=234139&highlight=amarok+lockfile
- bieber, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Because it's a vastly better music player. I use a good deal of QT software anyways, so it's really not a big deal to have a couple extra libraries installed...
- Gathalimay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah. I use ubuntu and quite frankly all of this ubuntu this/that is getting annoying when it is for a cross-platform program. . . .
Title could easily be "How to use Amarok to manage your iPod (or any MP3 player, for that matter).
Amarok works great for my SanDisk Sansa and an iPod my dad found. But please, lets stop slapping ubuntu onto everything mmkay? - trogdoor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They are called proper nouns.
- trogdoor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't use an iPod myself but one possibility I can see is that if the iPod was formatted on a mac it might be HFS+ ( what Apple calls MacOS extended ) and unless journaling is disabled that is going to mount read only on Linux ( won't mount at all on Windows ). If that is the case simply reformat it as FAT32 and you should be fine.
- NerveBand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I personally hate the Rhythmbox interface and its usuability issues. Amarok just works better for some people.
- halfabean, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1amen, Amarok and k3b are the 2 things I miss most about linux. ipod management was a cinch w/ ubuntu+amarok.
- jacks0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You might want to try songbird when it gets a little more mature. I'm _fairly_ sure it uses SQLite and it's cross platform.
http://www.songbirdnest.com/ - SanDaiFez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Some people might want to do it on SUSE/Mandriva/whatever, but since the fanboys think Linux = Ubuntu, well... the titles that come up on Digg's main page are always going to be ***** _|_
- limemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I second that. I don't understand why amarok & co need to use 15-30% of my cpu for playing mp3s when mpd can do the same at 0.3%
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I tried this today but it would never let me transfer. =|
I love Amarok to death though. - whothehellareyu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2My problem with Amarok is that every time it touches my iPod it screws up my library and I can't play iTunes purchased music anymore. For my Linux iPod management I use Floola, much nicer, and dedicated for iPod control.
- nateabel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1You can tell Ubuntu sucks when you have to read a tutorial on how to sync your iPod with it... I am sick of all these Ubuntu articles.
- Andrew67, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Try disabling the Analyzers next to the Play/Pause/Next buttons, reduced it from 5-10% to that 0.3%
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I always get "media failed read only file system"
- scrambled, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5Banshee FTW
- stauken, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Hard to get advertising traffic in the wiki. Editting php is probably a little beyond people who just use free apps for everything.
- Insomnya3AM, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Anyone else that read this topic title think we've gone too far with non-words?
Not a single noun in that sentence existed prior to the last decade. - jadeshade, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1all archie said is nice and all, but the only that itunes LEGALLY can't match is letting you copy songs off your iPod. But then again, any program besides itunes can do that. 2 cents on the article: amarok is nice to drool over, but I don't it's not so much better than exaile as to make the {foreign tookit, kde-deps, startup time from those deps} worth it - unless there is some obscure script you need .
- MarshyTheKid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I like Rhythmbox better. I have a large library and its easier to manage, at least for me. I used Amarok for a little bit but found it difficult to use, plugins that didn't work or required going through and changing settings, and overall, just harder.
- limemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Pardon my ignorance, but why would anyone prefer Amarok over Rhythmbox on Gnome based Ubuntu? It will install a ***** of QT and KDE libraries. Personally I prefer gtkpod which allows a wider range of settings. I think, with the right plugins activated Rhythmbox can update your ipod too.
- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3No thanks. I MUCH prefer gtk-pod for music transfer. AmaroK is good for organization and is a damn good and comprehensive media player, but it's iPod integration isn't all that hot.
- dutchdude15, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0They failed to mention the advantages over iTunes. :Please insert:____________
- xdeusx, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1Amarok is ugly, slow and too big..
MPD for music, gtk-pod for iPod...

What is Digg?
