- kd420, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Wait! I had the same problem with 8.10, but you DON'T have to remove network manager (it's really useful if you want to change to auto DHCP or wireless). Add the new static connection, and you have to play with the "Connect Automatically" and "System Setting" boxes. For me, I had to uncheck both on my new connection, then uncheck both on the old Auto connection, then recheck them on my static connection.
I know it sounds vague and possibly wrong, but I suggest trying something like that before taking the drastic step of removing network manager.
