- glaroc, on 06/30/2009, -1/+17Kind of cool, but I think I'll wait for Android apps to run more natively
http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2009/05/ca ... - DiomedesTydeus, on 06/30/2009, -1/+13I can't get the article to load, but I don't see why I wouldn't just use the emulator supplied by google as part of their SDK.
In fact, as I've coded several android apps now, I've always found the google emulator to be perfectly usable.
EDIT: Ah, got it to load, it's just the same instructions google already posted on how to get their emulator to run. - inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+10Check 123buckle's comment history.
He slips "science and programming" in almost every comment. It's hysterical. - krisrm, on 06/30/2009, -0/+9*wishes the Hero was available in North America*
I can't wait for that thing... - jakobrowning, on 06/30/2009, -0/+9I love self-proclaimed experts.

- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+8LOL!
- RobotBuddha, on 06/30/2009, -1/+7That's really more of an article on how to install and run the android emulator via gui in ubuntu. A very good tutorial, but not really what the title here suggested.
- Urgoz, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6Why do we, need to ask you how to do this, when, we can just read, the article,?
- krisrm, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6Well, since you're extremely interested in science and programming, I suppose I might have a few questions about this matter and such. For example, how do you decide where you're going to place a comma when you make these posts? Do you run all of your posts through a Perl script that inserts commas at random locations, but never the proper ones? I thought so...
- warp99, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6You have it bassackwards. It's 2 % on the desktop and 0.3 % for Andriod, well at least for web surfing:
http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php
Steve Ballmer puts the percentage higher for Linux than for Apple:
http://blogs.eweek.com/applewatch/content/macbook/ ...
And to answer your question in advance no these figures do not include servers per monkey boy's own words. - ZeNiTH456, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5http://rorr.im/digg.com/linux_unix/how_to_run_andr ...
- nenadsuperzmaj, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Cool. Will install it, just for fun, as I don't own an Android device... Dear Santa, I hope you're reading this :)
- jeddyftb, on 06/30/2009, -2/+5too much gui for true nerd goodness
- JustAGamer, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4old been doing this for a long time now
- deslock, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3? I have a core2 and it launches very quickly. I think you are talking about the first time you start it up which simulates starting up the device itself. Are you launching it from Eclipse?
- buddyw, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2True nerds don't need instructions.
- glaroc, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2which drivers are you using? The open source one (radeon) work fine for me.
- nenadsuperzmaj, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2You're a star!!!
- LastDitchHero, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Warom, you have to enable software compositing in order for that to work without compiz, but you can run just plain gnome do (not docky) without any compositing.
- virtualball, on 06/30/2009, -1/+2You can do the exact same in Mac by following the same steps..... (I'm sure windows too, but I don't know how to use the cmdline or Cygwin, or whatever it's called)
- Warom, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1I installed Ubuntu and I got a 800x600 resolution (DVI and VGA, HDMI didn't work at all), I then installed from the Restricted Hardware Drivers, this resulted in very poor performance and no Compiz - which means no Gnome Do.
- mark925, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Exactly. Title is misleading. Buried.
- DriXiLB, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1The screen will flicker on the Live CD. It stops when you install. At least, that is my experience.
I stopped using Linux though, I need windows for my games! - inactive, on 06/30/2009, -6/+3unless you have a multi core processor (4 preferred), be prepared to wait a long time for the dev emulator to boot.
- gn02256676, on 06/30/2009, -5/+1Wow they put open-source platform in an open-source platform...
- Warom, on 06/30/2009, -5/+1I think I will wait till Ubuntu runs on my computer without screen flickering. ATi 4850 = nuff said. :(
- 123bucklemyshoe, on 06/30/2009, -15/+6This is really, easy to do if you know what you're doing with computers if you don't know that much about computers it would be hard. I haven't read the story yet but I have a feeling it, might be lacking a little bit no offense it's just that I'm extremely interested in science and programming so I have experience with this matter and such. So if you have, any questions about how to do this I can help.
- Subduction, on 06/30/2009, -17/+2Wow, an article on how to run 2 percent market share OS mobile apps on a 0.3 percent market share desktop OS?
I guess it's time to break out my article on compiling RiscOS apps for BRiX.
