How can you help people to start using linux?

xintron.se — I’ve been trying to “convert” friends and basically all people I talk with to use Linux instead of (this is in general, I have one or two mac friends) Micro$oft Windows. I’ve noticed that it’s not that easy to make them switch and I’ll try and deal with why that is in this post. I’ll also give some tips on how to convert one or more users to Linux

  • daddymcguire, on 08/29/2008, -0/+2Trying to "convert"? This sounds a lot like knocking on doors and handing out religious tracts to me.

    I'm a Linux user myself, have been for many years. But to each their own; if a person is happy using Windows then so be it. You don't have to make it a crusade to "convert" the "pagans" and reclaim the "holy land".
  • yadame, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Most people don't even know what an operating system is, they just give you a blank look when you ask what operating system they use.
    For family members who just surf the net, and don't play games, but still want support from me I will setup Linux as the main operating system and give a quick lesson on using Firefox, email etc. Makes my life easier (no support for virus etc), and normally don't notice any difference. I find Linux to be a good Parent/aunt/uncle operating system.
