- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I probably ought to have mentioned that I found this newsworthy because the site was launched just a short while ago. Sorry about the typo in the title...
- podgey22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The site having been launched may have been newsworthy to the site owner but the content is too poorly laid out for many others to find comfort from this "news". There are a great many better sites out there that tailor to the specific distributions.
I don't want to hurt the owners feelings but buried as lame. Try again when the tutorials aren't just one big list. - jsaxton86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They have stolen hundreds of how-tos from The Linux Documentation Project (http://www.tldp.org). See for yourself:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/howtos.html
http://howtolinux.us/howto/
I'm going to bury this. - chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is W3C valid for both HTML and CSS. What is the issue?
Ah. Very funny. Almost didn't catch that joke. You are being elitist, trollish and anal retentive about their validation, regarding a site that is to be free of elitism and trolls.
Very clever. Funny too.
Unless you are serious : ( - BdON003, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's more work than it should be to look at all of those HOW-TOs without being in categories; it doesn't even mention which distros the guide will work for
- Maximus79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The howto's were not stolen, they are free to distribute as one wishes. Whats wrong with making documents available in more than one place?
Yes the website is plain. Maybe it was made that way to load faster, the web isn't supposed to be just about pretty graphics on websites. Did everyone forget there are more dialup users than broadband users online? That's right, most of you only care about yourselves.
Whats wrong with the navigation. It looks pretty simple to navigate to me.
Troll and Elitist free, meaning they wont be allowed to carry on unlike some forums. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3> [BlahBlahBlah]
Step #69: prevent users from registering usernames like "anonymoustroll". - mike503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we don't need another website, we need an improved TLDP.
possibly some better live document system, better design, comments. like PHP.net or mysql.com. inline comments are great. (or hell, like digg!)
right now i wouldn't go there for anything. it's way outdated, constantly. - mnkby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well now you've done it, the elitist trolls will be there in 5 minutes.
:D - AmpalayaNut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I too disagree with the statement about the webmaster, "They have stolen hundreds of how-tos from The Linux Documentation Project". Credits, revision history and authors have been left intact. This is what the authors say:
http://www.tldp.org/manifesto.html#pub
> 7. PUBLISHING LDP DOCUMENTS
> By the license requirements given previously, anyone is allowed to publish and distribute
> verbatim copies of the Linux Documentation Project documents. You don't need our explicit
> permission for this. However, if you would like to distribute a translation or derivative work
> based on any of the LDP documents, you may need to obtain permission from the author,
> in writing, before doing so, if the license requires that.
Site may seem simple, but it is easy to navigate. Sites do not require "eye candy" to be effective. I am deviating a little off topic, but a good example of a very effective documentation website is http://www.kiddofspeed.com/ It regards the Chernobyl disaster and other historic topics in the Ukraine. - Maximus79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for posting that AmpalayaNut...
I did upgrade the sites look and feel while making it easier for me to manage content for the site. It does look alot better now, though I didn't go overboard. Check it out! - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The W3C validator tool, to my knowledge, only validates HTML. Unless the programmer used a CDATA comment for all non-HTML code, the W3C validator can generate warnings or errors on those parts.
- zyzzyvette, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Horrible to navigate, not only are the howto's just a list (as podgey said), I don't see any reason for there to be different sections for "How-tos" and "Guides". Plus there's no visual difference between regular text and a link... which will be fine if the creator intends to never, ever put a link in the body text. Plus, is it that hard to add a little color? There might be some great info here, but nobody's going to stick around long enough to find out.
- redxii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You just don't know how to take an hour of your life to compile support for your video card and more time to configure it to display colors. n00b
- QurrUm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It says it's validated by the W3C. So then why does Firefox say that it has two warnings? Isn't the point of getting validated so that it has NO warnings?
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Elitist free Linux website/forum? Isn't that a contradictory statement?
Troll free? Not for long if this makes it to the Digg frontpage.

What is Digg?
