- weizbox, on 11/10/2008, -1/+8Hotmail sucks to begin with... on any OS. :)
We weren't expecting Microsoft to be Linux friendly in the first place anyways, were we? - phaoloo, on 11/09/2008, -3/+8I have a hotmail and never use it. Gmail is the best.
- admiral101, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5I can confirm hotmail does not work correctly with linux. Initially it tells you to upgrade your browser when i am using the most recent firefox 3 release. After telling it you will upgrade later you cannot type into the message box when trying to send an email. If you download user agent switcher and switch to windows it works perfectly - and faster.
- Bicep, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3agreed..hotmail effin' sucks, badly
But still.... companies shouldn't go around preaching that they're inter-operable when they're not!
When I went an logged into hotmail using Firefox 3.0 on Ubuntu, it said I need to upgrade my browser to, get this, Firefox/IE/Safari. It should say, "You are using Linux, we are blocking you".
Do you really believe they can't make their hotmail website see the Linux browswer stamp as well as the Windows one and work normally? Seems awful fishy that it conveniently does work properly for Linux. What a crock!! It's stuff like this that shows us all how evil monopolistic business practices are. Down with Monopoly!!
Oh, and don't let Microsoft buy into the web.. that's what I say.. they'll friggin break it for everyone who's not using an MS OS! - smotpoker, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2You are right, sorry about that. I thought the article was blaming Debian in part and you were trying to shift that blame to Mozilla even though the entire conflict is irrelevant to this problem. Plus I think I missed that entire last sentence, hah
- int19h, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2You are taking my quote out of context. I only meant it in the context of the quote from the article, none other. I've never meant that Mozilla was the cause of Microsoft having a broken webpage.
- int19h, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1That explains it. Thanks :)
- YodaJones, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Golly feller, but it is now ain't it.
- nailer, on 11/10/2008, -2/+3Hotmail wasn't always owned by Microsoft.
- int19h, on 11/10/2008, -1/+2From the article: "Debian users objected to Mozilla's Firefox image trademarks so they cloned Firefox into IceWeasel".
This is wrong. The Debian developers followed the well established Debian guidelines that does not permit nonfree software. The problem stems from Mozilla, not Debian. In particular, this is not the doing of Debian users. - smotpoker, on 11/10/2008, -1/+1"The problem stems from Mozilla..."
I wouldn't even really categorize that as a "problem" as it only effects the logo and name. Such cosmetic changes alone should NOT affect their usability or compatibility.
The real problem is ignorant/negligent/sloppy coding, and in this case perhaps an attempt at vendor lock-in served as an incentive to cause or ignore the problem.
Standards exist specifically so that different/competing products can share resources and interact without issue. AFAIK, checking the name of the client is not an accurate/accepted test of standard compliance nor do they indicate any/all unknown clients should be blacklisted/ignored. - YodaJones, on 11/10/2008, -3/+3Talk about a non-issue. Does anybody in here know a Open Source aficionado that uses Hotmail? Give me a break.
Buried.
