- Irco, on 07/30/2009, -0/+39hot damn! you can even test drive it on the browser..
The opensuse team is probably one of the fastest and most innovative in the open source community, this is crazy awesome.
I prefer openSuse over Ubuntu, but man if they could get together with cannonical there is no telling how much faster they could advance the linux experience. - abbathdoom, on 07/30/2009, -1/+34While the article talks mainly about jeOS this is also a great way for someone to make a full desktop gnome or KDE distro customised to their exact liking.
- mistergoomba, on 07/30/2009, -1/+24su-su-sudio
- relima, on 07/30/2009, -0/+17OMG; What a great deal of work that had to go through to do this.
I am seriously impressed. Congrats. - DangerCollie, on 07/30/2009, -0/+15Nice. I'm not a big SUSE fan but Linux is one of the few areas in IT you find true competition and innovation.
- 4321234, on 07/30/2009, -1/+13Oh, Novell the company that's probably spent more time and money in lawsuits against Microsoft (and SCO), and contibuted more code than most other companies with an investment in open source?
No it would be soooooooo much more clever to boycott Novel, who incidentally holds more software patents than any other open source vendor. I'm sure would be willing buyers (read MS) for the resulting patent firesale.
Why don't you clueless ***** boycott novel drones go beat your ***** heads against a rock and see if you can knock a brain cell loose that the lot of you can share?
They agreed not to sue EACH OTHERS CUSTOMERS!!!! IS THAT TOO DIFFICULT TO ***** UNDERSTAND!!!
Novell has actually sued MS since that agreement was signed. - ejhazlett, on 07/31/2009, -0/+9there is a similar system coming for ubuntu/debian... http://www.reconstructor.org (version 3.0)
- mississippiman, on 07/30/2009, -0/+7does it make VMWARE images?
- Ophie, on 07/30/2009, -1/+8Just got my invitation. I have yet to test it out though.
- Darth_tater, on 07/30/2009, -0/+7yes.
- Choobie, on 07/30/2009, -0/+6I was going to try exactly that as soon as it comes out of maintenance.
- metalhead3767, on 07/31/2009, -0/+4This is awesome. A better title would have gotten it more diggs.
- PeteThePain, on 07/31/2009, -0/+4It would be so awesome if Canonical did something similar for Ubuntu.
- MonkeyFarts, on 07/31/2009, -1/+4Yes, Novell should just die, because they obviously have done nothing for open source...
'Tard. - jameswelch, on 07/30/2009, -0/+3I came on here just to post that, nice one :)
- mikael110, on 07/30/2009, -1/+4suse studio is great, but how is this a "new service" I'm pretty sure i tried it out about half a year ago
- Darth_tater, on 07/30/2009, -0/+2some people are just getting invitations now; I've had mine for about 6 months now
- mrklaus, on 08/03/2009, -0/+2Steaming hot! Question is if the overhead is as big as for a typical SUSE system. Usually even on the minimal install SUSE used to drag quite a bit. Sure will try. SUSE team usually make stuff of the super high quality.
- KAMiKAZOW, on 07/30/2009, -0/+2That doesn't stop Ubuntu to ship Novell's OpenOffice fork and increase the usage of Mono (Mono-based Banshee replaced Rhythmbox as music player on Ubuntu).
- tripzero, on 08/01/2009, -0/+2Wow, the new reconstructor looks amazing!
- MonkeyFarts, on 07/31/2009, -0/+2That doesn't change the fact that Novell is one of the largest financial contributors to open source. But I guess you just don't understand that even open source benefits greatly from strong financial support, too. They have also been a great code contributor as well. SUSE Studio is just another good example of that.
- ejhazlett, on 07/31/2009, -1/+3there is a similar system coming for ubuntu/debian... www.reconstructor.org (version 3.0)
- mclewell, on 08/02/2009, -0/+2sold.
- MWeather, on 07/30/2009, -0/+2This is pretty nice. I've been using ubuntu-vm-builder with the --addpkg option. I doubt I'll use this, if only because I'm not familiar enough with SUSE, but this does make me want to create a frontend for ubuntu-vm-builder.
- RaulMuadDib, on 07/30/2009, -4/+5too bad Novell is in bed with Microsoft
- ejhazlett, on 08/01/2009, -0/+1Thanks! It is almost ready for launch. We are trying to secure funding for the backend build servers, then it's launch time!
- DreadKnight, on 07/31/2009, -2/+2@RaulMuadDib: Arch Linux is for geeks. Screw that.
- inactive, on 07/30/2009, -3/+3The only reason I know that is from American Psycho
- tomarocco, on 07/31/2009, -1/+1Open Source did just fine before Novell bought their way into the game and it will do just fine after Novell is dead and gone.
Novell != Open Source - ctomlin, on 07/31/2009, -1/+1STEVE?! Steve Balmer? is that you? whats up man!
- williepepper, on 07/30/2009, -6/+3But too bad you need to install Zen for Servers, IPX and SPX for it to work!
- RaulMuadDib, on 07/30/2009, -6/+2Ubuntu has been crap lately too. They should ship mono-free. So far, Arch Linux is best.
- depro9, on 07/30/2009, -6/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9wHpnFfpqc
- depro9, on 07/30/2009, -17/+1Oh, SUSE sellout you say? No thanks.
- tomarocco, on 07/30/2009, -21/+1Hurry up and die, Novell.
