- connieLingus, on 11/13/2008, -0/+58that damn "enter" key has always been overrated anyway, imho.

- shrewduser, on 11/13/2008, -7/+56for gods sake, google have been a good friend to linux, and chrome isn't even released yet! mozillas focus hasn't always been on their linux port either.

- Stonekeeper, on 11/13/2008, -15/+53Wow. I'm utterly shocked at their poor software engineering skills. I mean, creating cross-platform applications is easy. It would have been cheaper to do that than try and hack crap together after the fact.
- ehamberg, on 11/13/2008, -1/+39Java and Javascript are as closely related as your mom and Mickey Mouse.
- moocow1452, on 11/13/2008, -8/+43Took it long enough, even for a pre-alpha.
- schnitzi, on 11/13/2008, -10/+33The funny thing is, it works in Windows crudely too.
- g3rd, on 11/13/2008, -5/+27I can't wait for Mac OS support.
- benologist, on 11/13/2008, -0/+20That you are at least half mouse.

- wastern, on 11/13/2008, -0/+18wow, when the windows version was released and they said linux and os x was coming soon I thought they had at least started work on it. Now I'm not so sure
- r00tus3r, on 11/13/2008, -1/+18I'm also a bit upset about how this played out, but at the same point, google has been a good friend of the open source community and linux. But we still need to let them know that this extremely long period between the release of the windows and linux versions is unacceptable.
- Elranzer, on 11/13/2008, -1/+17Because to fanboys, Google's ***** is almost as generous as Apple's.
- Micrll, on 11/13/2008, -2/+17Cool, competition is good. Firefox is a great browser but chrome is not bad either, I'm sure Firefox will pickup a few things along the way from chrome simply existing as a separate competing browser.
- Hilyin, on 11/13/2008, -10/+24Wake me when its supported on OS X (and has addons).
- ptFoe, on 11/13/2008, -7/+21Rofl what a goose, Mozilla have released their 0.x versions for the different platforms in unison.
Just look at Google's other products, the Linux version comes 18 months after. - Dylson, on 11/13/2008, -5/+19Dude...you do realize what you just said right? Like...thats illegal to say those words on the internet.
- Tollofsen, on 11/13/2008, -0/+12I belive the e-mail client was invented a few years ago.
- mcmlxxii, on 11/13/2008, -3/+13I love Opera but where is Adblock? Firefox is slower but the add-ons are superb

- keeperofkeys, on 11/13/2008, -1/+10I haven't used FF under Linux for a while, but it seems misplaced to blame Mozilla for Flash crashing.
- inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+9What he screamed ^
- Vektuz, on 11/13/2008, -0/+8AFAIK you can already compile it, from source, on windows. Source which is available in full from google.
So its not like they're hiding anything. - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -3/+10you need to go and see a doctor that pimple on your lip looks like an infection from a virus, you windows whore

- gerryk, on 11/13/2008, -1/+8Y can't you spell properly?
- babyblue, on 11/13/2008, -1/+8google seem to suck at making cross platform desktop applications, actually i can't think of any that they have made that are really cross platform. wrapping google earth in wine does not count as porting.
- Culyt, on 11/13/2008, -1/+8@ptFoe:
Yes, since they have an automated build system they release all their 0.x.y.z pre-alpha releases, every minor change gets a build across all platforms. You can probably even find 4.x builds already.
That however doesn't mean a thing, they have been willing to prioritize Windows releases over Linux ones, leaving major bugs in the Linux versions and not implementing Linux features such as native UI's for ages.
The performance of Linux Firefox is also quite horrible (although it might be the same under Windows, but it seems worse to me). Flash causes crashing heaps, the entire browser locks up for several seconds. randomly and its slow to open.

No, they should be using Qt. It would give them a native interface in every platform instead of the current abomination they have in Windows (yes, it's a good interface; but it doesn't fit in the OS). Gtk would give them a mess in Windows and a nightmare in OS X. - Elranzer, on 11/13/2008, -2/+9It's a button. Steve Jobs hates buttons. I'm surprised any keyboard keys work in Mac OS X nowadays.
- directrix13, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7I thought they used Qt for Google Earth. But Picassa is wrapped in Wine? Am I wrong on this?
- JacobSphinx, on 11/13/2008, -7/+13I'll take Opera any day. Far more feature filled than Firefox or Chrome, and completely multiplatform even while being a purely proprietary product. Take that Google!
- gilbert2048, on 11/13/2008, -1/+7I think their mainly targeting windows for a reason.
I dont think they really care if linux users use the browser or not there going to focus on competing with internet explore - trollick, on 11/13/2008, -2/+8Chrome? Is it still around? It used to be my browser of choice to work with Cuil.
- mickstephenson, on 11/13/2008, -1/+7Qt or gtk either way, my sentiment was about making a positive contribution. I just said gtk because work to port webkit to gtk is already being done, I don't know what the situation is with Qt, I don't believe there are any projects interested in making a Qt webkit browser yet.
And lots of programs use gtk for cross platform, pidgin, gimp, deluge, transmission to name a few I wouldn't call them "a mess". - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+6It's faster than firefox on my computer, also it has a less gay fan base
- Muncher, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5It’s not as easy as it sounds...
- ironiridis, on 11/13/2008, -1/+6Uh, let's not even start to talk about how many browsers exist on Windows and Linux.
- diatonic1, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5It's not a new java engine... it's a new javaSCRIPT engine. I can't believe it is ***** 2008 and there are still people that think javascript has anything to do with java. *****!
Sorry - it seems that the latest nightly build of FF 3.1 doesn't show replys properly, so I didn't see that 2 people had mentioned this before I did... seems the engine still needs some work. - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -3/+8That's ok the google engineers can use it why I enjoy firefox with all the goodness of Add-ons.
- SittingDuc, on 11/13/2008, -3/+8chrome looks so much better than firefox, but i have to say that firefox is much better as far as using it and security goes
- mickstephenson, on 11/13/2008, -4/+9The release dates are a slight annoyance, but the fact is Google should be programming this using gtk, and assisting to port webkit to gtk along with the Epiphany guys, instead they are making this bag of wank, which will stick out like a sore thumb and I will not use.
@shrewduser - name a Google product which isn't beta, surely having everything in beta has become an in house joke at google. - bort27, on 11/13/2008, -1/+6http://www.codeweavers.com/services/ports/chromium ...
- shmatt, on 11/13/2008, -1/+6ha ha stfu lol
- maz2331, on 11/13/2008, -1/+5I haven't found Chrome to really be worth running. Firefox does everything that I want a browser to do, and the UI is actually more functional. Chrome left me with a "meh" feeling after playing around with it.
