- scy1192, on 10/19/2008, -8/+39I've never even found gadgets/widgets to be useful.
- Tsiolkovsky, on 10/19/2008, -0/+31In KDE 4.2 you will even be able to use them natively as Plasma Widgets. Same for Mac OS X widgets.
- pip182, on 10/19/2008, -3/+27thats weird, i could swear I've had google gadgets installed on ubuntu for about 4 months now.... i must be drunk
- conversekid, on 10/19/2008, -1/+15Well, it's about damn time.
- LastDitchHero, on 10/19/2008, -0/+14Umm, hasn't this been on getdeb for a while?
- jamesatdigg, on 10/19/2008, -3/+15for ubuntu users try this http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-install-google-gad ...
- a-bomb, on 10/19/2008, -1/+12http://www.screenlets.org/
"Since version 0.1 you can use google gadgets and other web widgets in the screenlets engine..." http://www.screenlets.org/index.php/Google_gadgets ... - Vigacmoe, on 10/20/2008, -0/+10Wasn't it there for like MONTHS?
- AtomicPC, on 10/19/2008, -1/+8How many others don't get these things? I mean they look cool and all but I've got a clock up there on the top right that's displayed all the time. A calender as well. I can even put one click launchers on this bar. I honestly don't understand what the deal is with these things or why anyone would need two clocks and two calenders... Oh and I did try some once or twice.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/20/2008, -0/+7The latest update shown on the Google Code site linked is from over a month ago. How is this a "Finally"?
- stmiller, on 10/19/2008, -1/+8OS X widget support is somewhat experimental, but getting there. Still, very cool!
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5Conky does a good job for system info and weather. Gadgets can seem a bit cheesy.
- kg4gyt, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4You can get rid of the sidebar by running it as "ggl-gtk -ns"
- AirRaven, on 10/19/2008, -5/+9But... Google Gadgets are utter *****! D:
Ugly as sin, inflexible, and a messy hodgepodge of installation methods on Windows.
What's the *point*? - Vadi0, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Dude... Google Gadgets were available for *months* now.
Its the exact same thing gOS were using (and no, they did not do anything special but pre-install them. Zaroooo work) - 000dom000, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Yes, it has. I have been using google gadgets for months.... Very handy but I hope also now that this encourages more people to develop more gadgets. There aren't really that many available or many variations in certain categories.
- cledford, on 10/19/2008, -0/+3Finally!
- oobuntu, on 10/20/2008, -1/+4Why is everyone obsessed with having the weather on their desktop? If i want to know today's weather, i look out of the window.
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -0/+3I thought the Linux version was available long time ago thanks to gOS. Maybe they were using wine for that. After all, the installed it by default.
- oobuntu, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2that must be because real nerds live in their mum's basement and don't have windows. on the other hand i work at the top of a skyscraper and can see the weather coming from 15 miles away
- edwinjose, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Old news.
- simpleboy, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2I totally agree with you. conky is the best for weather and system info and not to forget even to display time and read mails. see this: http://www.quicktweaks.com/2008/09/27/gmail-weathe ...
- JonLatane, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2If KDE would just add back the damned global menu bar (Mac-style menu bar) to KDE4 I would make the switch in a heartbeat.
- ZeroNeo, on 10/19/2008, -0/+1I though gOS had this implemented a while ago, where their gadgets different froom google gadgets?
- Eezyville, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1I thought this was news a few months ago. Meh oh well.
- kelvie, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2Neither have I -- until I bought a tablet PC. Having a Dashboard full of widgets is _very_ handy when you have stylus oriented movement (that is, the ability to have discontinuous mouse movements) and with the lack of a keyboard.
- mundotriste, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Update & google about the screenlets package (Ubuntu at my experience), they are already there for months... something I miss that could be great and usefull is a syncml gadget, for a quick look of tasks and pending meetings
- xiangxianni, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1Old news.Welcome tips5
http://www.tips5.com - anksrivastava, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Old News.... It has been released for some time.
- suzhe, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0Google Gadgets for Linux 0.10.3 has been released, which would be the most important upgrade towards the final 1.0.0 release.
- Eezyville, on 10/20/2008, -1/+1Why are you so obsessed with other people's desktop?
- Balla79, on 10/20/2008, -0/+0Wow. I wondered if the version 1.0 was here already. I uninstalled version 0.10 several months ago, and thought I might try it again...
- suzhe, on 10/20/2008, -0/+0screenlets can't support Google Desktop Gadgets.
- Eezyville, on 10/20/2008, -1/+1Yes and they crash to damn much on my system. :(
I think I'll stick to disklets, I only use the weather globe, clock, and slideshow. - ZeNiTH456, on 10/19/2008, -1/+1The only one I use is the "Digg's Top Stories" gadget, I find it extremely helpful. I had no idea it worked in linux yet so I'm installing :)
- Vigacmoe, on 10/20/2008, -2/+1Installed it the other day, purged after I tried every gadgets it offers, nice program, but still useless.
- Balla79, on 10/20/2008, -2/+1Real nerds don't.
- Nouman6, on 10/19/2008, -5/+4Next up? 64bit Vista please.
- disappointed, on 10/19/2008, -14/+7'bout time Linux had some useless bloatware.
- Jasuus, on 10/19/2008, -15/+6what a much of useless crap programmed by interns.
