Google Desktop arrives on Linux
desktoplinux.com — Google has finally released a long-awaited native Linux application: Google Desktop for Linux. As with the already shipping OS X and Windows versions, Google Desktop enables Linux users to search for text inside documents, local email messages, their Web history, and their Gmail accounts.

The closed source software package will compete with the large selection of open source desktop solutions that are currently available. Interest in projects like Beagle and Strigi might decline as a result of this release. Google Desktop Search does not yet adhere to the free desktop search standard Xesam.
