- grexeo, on 11/13/2009, -15/+527Google are on fire atm. New OS, new programming language, new proposed web protocol, more free apps, lower cost cloud storage, the list goes on. Mix it all together and what have you got? One serious contender against the Microsoft monopoly.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 11/13/2009, -2/+274It'll be in beta for 5 years
- bdurkin, on 11/13/2009, -0/+261Will I need an invite?
- UnbannedAccount, on 11/13/2009, -2/+203Only two exclamation points in the heading!!
Must not be very good. - jamwil87, on 11/13/2009, -2/+184Competition is always a good thing. (For the consumer)
- yttrstein, on 11/13/2009, -12/+174Yay! Yet another linux variant.
- Echuu, on 11/13/2009, -2/+141What, there's been so little info, i didn't expect it until at least 2011.
- abbathdoom, on 11/13/2009, -0/+114The title is misleading, by launch it means launch an incredibly early alpha.
- freeridstylee, on 11/13/2009, -1/+111Yes but this one comes with a marketing department. Thus it is seperated from the rest of the pack.
- specialK16, on 11/13/2009, -8/+89*OS X runs aways in a effeminate manner.*
- Kiters, on 11/13/2009, -7/+80I'm really looking forward to see what it will bring to the end users
- jshriver, on 11/13/2009, -3/+72Is it a full operating system? If so did they roll their own or is is another Linux-kernel system with a modified interface? Is it just a robust API for web programming and some kind of Chrome browser with hardware interface via the API for speed?
I'm intrigued but not holding my breath entirely. - Warom, on 11/13/2009, -34/+103This is a good thing? Getting locked into Google rather than Microsoft will be different?
- footbag01, on 11/13/2009, -3/+62Until Google starts charging $, I'll take them over Microsoft.
- forgenet, on 11/13/2009, -0/+52hopefully this is legitimate and not like the last story that was released where someone found a suse studio build that they called chrome os just because it had chrome in it
- Nephersir7, on 11/13/2009, -4/+54Actually, Google does not lock you in, That's where the differerence is...
They even have a team dedicated in making your data freely exportable/importable:

- Manuelmty, on 11/13/2009, -2/+44ads
- skelooth, on 11/13/2009, -19/+58Microsoft monopoly? is this 1997?
- Opiebreath, on 11/13/2009, -5/+43YES! Now I can truly be a devoted member of the Church of Google!
- thephosphorbox, on 11/13/2009, -7/+41*sigh* Microsoft monopoly. If everyone on the planet decided to drive Toyotas because they had decent cars, would Toyota then be a monopoly? Windows/Office isn't the only game in town.. MS isn't forcing you to use them.
- UnFriendlyFire, on 11/13/2009, -16/+48I for one, welcome our new electronic over-lords.
- Culyt, on 11/13/2009, -0/+32And I suppose Redhat and Novel, just sneak into large companies and night and install Linux like ninjas?
The main difference here is its Google, they have money and a reputation. - gabacho2, on 11/13/2009, -4/+35Fork a linux branch, change the "desktop" wallpaper, call it a new OS..
- fasda, on 11/13/2009, -0/+30not a chance.
- hughesw2, on 11/13/2009, -1/+31If the Google name gets people to check out Linux that otherwise wouldn't, that a win if you ask me.
- Echuu, on 11/13/2009, -0/+29It is indeed misleading.
- Warom, on 11/13/2009, -3/+31Windows 8, OS X 10.7 and Google OS... FIGHT!
- Trifold, on 11/13/2009, -2/+30Time to sell some invites on eBay!
- drex8, on 11/13/2009, -2/+28How long it will be in beta mode?
- glockman69, on 11/13/2009, -2/+28Fanboy.
- ifallen, on 11/13/2009, -4/+30Actually, in my opinion, this kind of thought has always reminded me of starcraft.
Windows- terren You build/train your own units, decent price, decent function.
Linux- Zerg Can infest any system, very low cost and just works on anything.
Mac - Protoss You can't build them yourself, only warp them in. However, the higher price of a protoss unit deffinitly pays for itself, the overshields would kinda be like applecare. In fact, with the dark arkon concept taken into consideration, it makes even more sense as you can run windows or linux on a mac.
That's my geeky 2 cents. - enronhubbard, on 11/13/2009, -0/+26Ubungle
- FritoPendejo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+26Game. Set. Match. Seriously Galt, no one is going to buy the whole "stop being a nerd" attitude from a guy posting in a Digg article about a rumored release of an operating system.
- specialK16, on 11/13/2009, -1/+26Not sure if troll.
- FritoPendejo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+24Google is going to replace Microsoft? How exactly would adding a viable competitor in the operating system market be a step towards a monopoly? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here since I can't seem to understand so many of the posts on this site.
- mehan, on 11/13/2009, -0/+24cool story, bro
- NovaPrime9, on 11/13/2009, -1/+24Google launches everything as an incredibly early Alpha. Have you tried Wave yet? It feels like it's held together with duct tape and prayers.
- Orbital101, on 11/13/2009, -7/+30Call me a fanboy if you want to, but I personally can't wait to get my hands on this. Very excited!
- davewelsh79, on 11/13/2009, -0/+23Did you a word?
- applK, on 11/13/2009, -1/+23im waiting for google toilet paper
- robwhite1979, on 11/13/2009, -1/+23Huh? I was agreeing with you... I'm so confused.
Oh, and even though I think this OS thing is pointless, I use (daily): Search, gMail, Docs, iGoogle, and Alerts. I know many people who use all of those services on a daily basis. - evil-doer, on 11/13/2009, -0/+22i am waiting it curiously too.
- robwhite1979, on 11/13/2009, -0/+22I'd guess your estimate is a bit low...
- virtualmode, on 11/13/2009, -1/+22gOS wasn't Google's.
- LostSoul83, on 11/13/2009, -0/+21Will there be full-screen flash support? (seven frames/second does not count!)
- robwhite1979, on 11/13/2009, -1/+22Crysis is so old now my toaster will run it...
- christoast, on 11/13/2009, -1/+21yeah, i don't know why i went into detail. So ronery.
- davenport651, on 11/13/2009, -1/+21@FutureGuy: And how are expensive clicks on google ads any different then a company spending millions of dollars on a super bowl commercial? Does that mean there's an "NFL Tax" on those products? As you say, Google is the gateway to the internet. Simple fact is lots of people want to advertise on google, so they charge more for their service. That's basic economics. Its no different then the other forms of media advertising we've had in the past.
