- KloroFormd, on 03/24/2009, -0/+45May your soul rest in /dev/null.

*wipes tear from eye* - stix213, on 03/24/2009, -0/+20Ahh good old Gutsy - you will be missed. It seemed to have everything I manually installed into Feisty and then some.
- ercax, on 03/24/2009, -1/+20It's a monkey that can use a mouse with more than one button.
- amanilaenvelope, on 03/24/2009, -1/+13♫ Oh, Danny boy
the pipes, the pipes are calling ♫ - tofagerl, on 03/24/2009, -1/+13I think a 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' might be a little less... bumpy :)
- codyman, on 03/24/2009, -0/+12Aren't you a cool kid!
- yetAnotherCroc, on 03/24/2009, -1/+12Wow, the Apple fanboys are out in force today. Why the hate? Inferiority complex?
- darkslide29, on 03/24/2009, -0/+11Goodbye Ubuntu 7.10, we hardly knew you.
Seriously, I didn't know of you til about 2 minutes ago. - tofagerl, on 03/24/2009, -0/+11sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- ninjasenses, on 03/24/2009, -1/+10I remember booting up that live cd and not thinking twice about installing it right away, RIP...
- clarious, on 03/24/2009, -1/+9It was my first Ubuntu distro and I was amazed by its user friendliness. And it is also the most stable Ubuntu version for me (8.04 an 8.10 has several problems with NetworkManager, PulseAudio etc....)
- darkmagician777, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8I loved 7.10 - it was one of the best user friendly version out there. And now its getting tough to choose since so many great versions are around. OpenSuse , Fedora, and of course UBUNTU
- ethana2, on 03/24/2009, -3/+10Ubuntu is a computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. Ubuntu's goals include providing an up-to-date, stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on usability and ease of installation. Ubuntu has been rated as the most popular Linux distribution for the desktop, claiming approximately 30% of desktop Linux installations in 2007.

- m00n1, on 03/24/2009, -1/+7Of course if Microsoft end of lifed an OS this quickly, there'd be hell to pay on Digg.
- ethana2, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6I get that it was sarcasm, but it pissed me off, probably his goal.
- Meep3D, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5LTS = 3 year = not enough.
I also would not trust a dist-upgrade in a corporate environment not to screw anything. - DBeta, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5The time is in the version. 7 suggest 2007, and 10 suggests October, the 10th month in the year.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5It's super, thanks for asking.
- Krissam, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5After Loaded Ladybird
- whoreable, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Jackoff Jackelope?
- shady3d, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4what a short life, 18month !!!!!
- Joh739, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4Gutsy was the first version of Ubuntu I used, because of Gutsy i have had the guts to switch from openSuSE to Ubuntu.
- KloroFormd, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4You don't have to.
- cquilliam, on 03/25/2009, -0/+4Because its a popular OS and a popular distribution of an OS. It was a a big deal when Windows 3.11 was discontinued which only happened late last year.
Further to that, every time someone at apple farts, it makes it to the front page. Relax and bury it if you don't like it. - Darkkshadow449, on 03/24/2009, -3/+7Time to move on to bigger and better things. And hopefully a little less bloated... :P
- m00n1, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5With the enterprise agreements, it costs most corporates nothing. Except for training, checking apps, deployment, etc.
The actual OS cost is almost trivial as part of TCO, and deployment/updates are a big part of TCO. - Zaggynl, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4*waste
- wakingrufus, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5That's why Canonical offers LTS releases.
- Krissam, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4Please explain to me, how did you go from the fact that you're missing some drivers to the "fact" that only nerds use Linux?
Are you saying nerds care less about drivers than other people? I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. - Joh739, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4If it has 7.10 on it then I would upgrade to 9.04 when it comes out. Most software made by companies only support the latest longterm release(8.04) and up. But if you don't mind security much then 7.10 will do fine.
- glinsvad, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5aka Gusty Gibbon
- bobjohnsonmilw, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I kinda hate this. Gutsy is the only ubuntu that seems to run reliably on my laptop. Hardy was completely worthless for me, but had a lot of great features, IF you could use it reliably.
I haven't tried the newer releases since, as everytime it involves a complete reinstall of gutsy. I'm not idiot either, I gave it a lot of troubleshooting and participated in the feedback and testing process.
Still though, Ubuntu all the way from here out. - theaceoffire, on 03/24/2009, -1/+4Some people are worried that if a Linux distro does well, that it will in some way hurt their OS of choice.
- DBeta, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Perhaps you haven't been paying attention, but 9.04 will start a major design overhaul. They change every 6 months because they want stable releases but also want to keep up to date. Nobody is forcing you to update until the EOL of the product, and even then you could keep using it, you just might be missing important updates. The long term support versions of Ubuntu have a much longer support cycle to ensure businesses can build their business on an OS, and have time to get support for the new LTS before the older LTS hits end of life.
It's a cycle that wouldn't work in a "pay for" environment, because end users wont pay for a new OS every 6 months, but will feel slighted if they don't have the latest. 6 month releases means I get all the latest technology and design well integrated with the OS. - LostSoul83, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I still remember installing 7.10 and discovering compiz-fusion. I spent at least two hours listening to music and playing with all of the cool plug-ins... good times! I had to check out every plug-in and see how the different settings affected it. Ever try having 16 desktops instead of 4? How about making menus/dialogue boxes transparent?
- whoreable, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Dont feed the troll.
- theaceoffire, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I do not get it,
were you making an haiku?
Dude, you suck at this. - ihate2regist, on 03/24/2009, -1/+4When does Lucky Lizard come out?
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -3/+6You can WEP crack with every operating system, waist of a partition.
- jestin, on 03/24/2009, -3/+6Microsoft *does* end the life of their OS's at about the same rate, at least in release time. It just takes MS 15 years to do 3 releases where it takes Canonical a year and a half.
- podgey22, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Get a clue.
- Krissam, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3It's probably not 7.10 on it, and if it is, you just need to update it.
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Don't count on it. In Intrepid they killed the gnome-core meta package.
- podgey22, on 03/24/2009, -1/+4?
- cosmicr, on 03/24/2009, -0/+2holy *****. I am so stupid. I didnt realise thats what the version numbers stood for!
