- FIip, on 10/27/2007, -2/+44Nice site, until you click over to the Plug-In Registry page. It's like a portal to the 90's.
- geminitojanus, on 10/27/2007, -0/+38Don't worry, I've notified the Department of Redundancy Department. ;)
- skyshock1, on 10/27/2007, -4/+29Does it cost as much as Photoshop yet? Have you contributed to the project to make it better than Photoshop yet?
It is what it is man. Quit yer bitchin'. - swrostmore, on 10/27/2007, -3/+25lol image manipulation software trolls
- AnthonyA7, on 10/27/2007, -3/+24Please, keep replying to your own comment.
- nerd05, on 10/27/2007, -0/+21defiantly = resistantly
definitely = without doubt - D3koy, on 10/27/2007, -1/+21In a dollars to functions ratio Gimp blows Photoshop out of the water....so there is something for the cheap bastard in all of us...
- bratterscain, on 10/27/2007, -0/+16There's a plugin for that.
- scottied, on 10/27/2007, -1/+16I have been watching this development for months. In my experience it is quite a visible improvement. It would reaallllly suck to revert back to the last version. Comparisons to photo$hop aside, the gimp is shaping up quite nicely.
- adrianbj, on 10/27/2007, -3/+18Why are the screenshots for a graphics manipulation package pixelated as hell? Not a good advertisement for them.
- MagicCake, on 10/27/2007, -0/+14I dunno, but it's not bad for being free...
- legendxx, on 11/12/2007, -2/+16Will you stfu?
- stmiller, on 10/27/2007, -6/+19Even though we are in the Linux section, I know someone is going to ask. :)
The Windows build is here:

gimp-2.4.0-i586-setup.exe - Darqfaux, on 10/27/2007, -1/+14The 2.4 RC came baked in Ubuntu 7.10.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+13will it automatically update in ubuntu gutsy or am i going to have to download it?
- iofthestorm, on 10/27/2007, -0/+12That's for their next release, the RCs were already out when they put up that site.
- swrostmore, on 11/05/2007, -14/+25WACOM pressure support in OSX - Confirm or Deny?
- cogit0, on 10/27/2007, -1/+9Aliasing, my friend. The images are far bigger than the lightbox used to display them. More of a poor display method than poor image manipulation.
- bruce42, on 10/27/2007, -2/+9type eek for an easter egg
- Theli, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7For blending or for shutting the ***** up?
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+7Hmm...I have Gutsy and it shows Gimp 2.4RC3 is installed.
- Breepee, on 10/27/2007, -1/+7Isn't that a matter of Apple's X supporting the Wacom?
- kevincannon, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5It's a fantastic site. I'm really impressed the way that open source software has improved the way it communicates and sells it's software. It's a great sign that OSS is starting to target more normal user as well as hackers and coders.
Good work to the Gimp Team and those who worked on the site! :) - stmiller, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5Link prob (?) argh... See if this works.
http://tinyurl.com/lsde6 - btglittlejohn, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5No pressure sensitivity. It isn't a fault of Gimp but rather the X11 app it runs in. Until there is an alternative to the X11 environment you will need to look elsewhere to seriously consider using Gimp for something other than touching up home photos. I know, makes me sad too.
http://www.mail-archive.com/gimp-user%40lists.xcf. ... - ShaunO, on 10/25/2007, -1/+5As per every sane release schedule, once gutsy is released it should see nothing but bug fixes and security updates. So while we're not famous for patience around here, this does give them a shot to bang on it a bit, get a point-release out the door a little later, and have a rocking 2.4.x prepped for the next Ubuntu LTS release in April
- Aitese, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4Then don't hand it out...it's like a 7-8mb download!
- AnthonyA7, on 10/25/2007, -2/+6apt-get install gimp says I already have the latest (I have 2.2.something). Looks like we have to compile from source, at least for the time being.
- islingt0ner, on 10/25/2007, -3/+7Sometimes I want Jimmac's babies.
- Seph7, on 11/05/2007, -2/+6damm still no non x11 version for OSX.
It looks like the GUI and icons have improved a lot from the screen shots though. - bruce89, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3There is work being done on making GTK+ work on MacOS X without X11 - http://developer.imendio.com/projects/gtk-macosx
- arjie, on 10/25/2007, -1/+4Actually, it's a case of the right tool for the job. Playing around with my photos is not worth $600. So, yes, to me, the GIMP is much, much better. I'm told graphic designers find Photoshop more appealing though. Sort of like you wouldn't buy your mom a blade server to check her mail on, and a scientist wouldn't use a desktop PC to run nuclear simulations.
- D3koy, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3Good thinking, I was about to ask....
but if you click on download it is also the top choice...
http://gimp.org/downloads/ - andycr512, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3Right, because you could do better in 12 years.
Those who can, do. Those who can't, troll. - mssharp, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3Found a good review of the new gimp 2.4 at http://cyberpunkcafe.com/page.php?31
- arjie, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3I think he was just joking about that fellow's username. If the fellow had been called anIndian and he'd said "***** cheap Indians" I would've dugg him up. But then, we have a whole country to treat ourselves badly in :)
- GawtMilk, on 10/25/2007, -2/+4Question Status : Dodged!
- bratterscain, on 10/25/2007, -2/+4Simple and functional. I like it.
- geekoid, on 10/25/2007, -1/+3Actually, no. It's not. It has a very long way before it's even slightly better than Photoshop, I assure you. CS3 just upped the ante on that too, again.
- Scruffydan, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2hmmm that wasn't there before
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2thanks for the info
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/25/2007, -4/+5anyone else dissapointed with the screenshots after all the fuss over the ui overhall?
- geekoid, on 10/25/2007, -1/+2My my my, what a racist little ***** you are, eh?
- MattBD, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1I don't know about that. It sounds a lot better if you use it as a verb
eg: What have you done with this photo?
I've Photoshopped it! (doesn't sound very good)
I've Gimped it! (sounds a lot better!) - geekoid, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1Gutsy was released last week, which you could see if you actually visited the site to check.
- gsmolders, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1wow.
i would NOT have used that babypicture for a screenshot.
ugh. - GawtMilk, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1It doesn't work anymore. I downloaded the CS3 trial and ran it...nothing. "This License has Expired".
- stmiller, on 10/25/2007, -1/+2Plug-In page looks like it was done by the same designer of debian.org
*ducks* - spikespeigel42, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1It reminds me of blenders site, which sucked for years but is now the *****, and songbird has a badass one too, its good to see things changing
- Trel, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1I don't see what you mean, is it possible it's not there anymore?
