- daftman, on 03/05/2008, -1/+6He's right you know. You can have GTK on windows. Gnome is a GTK app, not other way around.

Are you serious? Firefox is cross-platform. You really believe that just because Mozilla is working together with the Gnome project, you would have to install Gnome to run Mozilla products? I seriously hope you were joking. - BlueSkyfish, on 03/05/2008, -0/+2***** syntax nazis
"Finally, the foundation that created my favorite desktop environment and the foundation that created my favorite web browser are now working together." - baalzebub, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1firefox has been a favorite of mine for a long time, but i wont install gnome to use it, that would be like buying an 18 wheeler to go to the grocery store for a sack of groceries, since i prefer light weight window managers like dwm, fvwm & openbox. i do keep kde installed for the benefit of other users (family & friends)...
- noseeme, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1$10,000 can go pretty far in the OSS world. :)
- ptFoe, on 03/04/2008, -2/+3Hopefully the people at Mozilla can help the backward developers at Gnome properly support the mouse scroll. Windows & KDE allows you to set the number of lines scrolled for the mouse Scroll wheel, but not in Gnome. Luckily using Mozilla based products helps you avoid this arthritis inducing nonsense.
Can wait for KDE4 to become more stable. - Franfois, on 03/05/2008, -1/+1I wonder what this will mean in terms of licensing, like in the IceWeasel case. Will the GNU Project (that started GNOME, if I'm not mistaken) press Mozilla to adapt their Firefox license (especially the artwork) in order to standardize the distribution?

- kingofpenguins, on 03/04/2008, -3/+3Konqueror is actually very good, and I have no big issues with using it as my main browser. The only problems I have with it are on sites like Gmail (which I don't use anymore) and the commenting system on Digg. Other than that, it is an excellent, small, and extremely fast browser that has great integration into KDE.
Of course, I may also like it because I've been drinking way too much of the KDE Kool-aid. ;) - baalzebub, on 03/05/2008, -3/+3get your facts straight dumbass!
"Are you required to install KDE to use Konqueror?" = yes, you need qt, kdelibs and kdebase atleast which makes a basic kde desktop...
Are you required to install Gnome to use Epiphany?- i dont use gnome but i would venture to guess you need gnome too...
"Firefox certainly depends on Gnome libraries -- GTK for example", wrong, GTK = Gimp Tool Kit, gnome depends on GTK, and GTK can be used without gnome, i know at present firefox does not need gnome to run but my concern is will this change in the future since mozilla and gnome are getting cozy...
if i have to start installing half a dozen gnome packages to run firefox i wont do it, and drop firefox & seamonkey, i seriously don't like gnome which is my prerogative... - defconoi, on 03/05/2008, -2/+2I have found that friends of mine that have little or no pc experience prefer Gnome over KDE, probably because everything is more stream lined and less cluttered, anyone else experience the same?
- KicktheDonkey, on 03/05/2008, -2/+1Maybe you should get your facts straight. Firefox already uses GTK on Linux, "dumbass".
- thtroyer, on 03/05/2008, -3/+2Why would you be required to install Gnome to use Firefox? Are you required to install KDE to use Konqueror? Are you required to install Gnome to use Epiphany?
Dependencies don't work like that. Epiphany is a Gnome application, but Gnome depends on Epiphany, not the other way around. Gnome/KDE are often set up as meta-packages -- blank packages that pull in everything required as a dependency. No package would request these giant meta-packages to be a dependency.
Firefox certainly depends on Gnome libraries -- GTK for example, just as Konqueror is going to depend on some of KDE's libraries, like QT. This isn't going to change. If they attempt to become better integrated into Gnome, you might see a few more dependencies in the Gnome area, but that's all.
Really, there's nothing to worry about... unless you're just into 'drama'. - ell0bo, on 03/05/2008, -2/+1Um... lets try that again, but this time lets pretend you belong on Digg...
- ImTheManWhoRU, on 03/05/2008, -2/+1Gnomezilla ftw
