there's a disclamer right on the page ; )
well thought out site though. - EnergyUK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Plug and Pray?
Hasn't Microsoft been using this in windows for a long time now? - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31Who gives two ***** *why* people use it? That's the point of Linux: people can make their own distros for whatever reason they want - no questions asked.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20HAHA funny...
I like "Ubuntu Christian Edition's wine can run Oblivion without any performance loss. After all, it can do miracles." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Well, you could read the features and learn that for yourself.
- collywolly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You can do a 'sudo su' though......
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11In the Christian Edition there are only ten commands.
- Llan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Be aware that it doesn't support genetic algorithms. Evolution is a lie, after all!
- yish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11love it. inspired by it -
http://jewbuntu.wordpress.com/ - euvirtual, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9you should do "sudo -s" though...
- ludwik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Hilarious. And here is the real (!) thing - http://www.whatwouldjesusdownload.com/christianubuntu/
- bladefallcon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Funny Blog. But I'm glad I read it. I was unaware that a Ubuntu Distro gearewd towards Christians was out there; and more to the point, some of the software packaged with it (Gnomesword). I may just have to take a look at that.
- ihatebillg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8what about the confess command that deletes your logs and caches?
- fussili, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Stupid American evangelical preachers *sigh*. They're a small minority giving Christians Worldwide a bad name.
Kind of off topic but I feel that I have to post so we don't get lumped with that lot: The vast majority of Christians accept that Darwinian Evolutionary Theory is the best theory we have today and that a belief in God and Evolution are not mutually exclusive.
Catholics especially. The church made its peace with Evolution years ago and we're the majority. Sorry about the n00bs. - Arni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8>>Does it stop you downloading porn or something...?
It does ;)

Ubuntu Christian Edition also includes fully integrated web content parental controls powered by Dansguardian. A graphical tool to adjust the parental control settings has also been developed specifically for Ubuntu Christian Edition. These features are truly what sets Ubuntu Christian Edition apart. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6As a Christian, I think it is a novel idea. And look forward to downloading it.
- auhsor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Haha nice, there are some pretty funny ones in there. I'm a christian and I can appreciate the humour. Theres nothing wrong with seeing the funny side of your religion.
- scheper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I agree, I enjoyed it too as a Christian.
It's a shame people have to go out of their way to start bashing Christianity every chance they get though. - aboutblank, on 10/12/2007, -14/+18Umm.. you THINK he's joking.
Ubuntu Christian Edition? You've GOT to be kidding me!
But NO! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=218724

He's serious!
-An atheist. - cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I installed the Ubuntu Christian edition for my mother-in-law. Basically, it's normal Dapper with a content blocking proxy, a bunch of bible software and a couple of new logos. In fact, the Edubuntu project (aimed at kids) could do worse than to look at the Dans Guardian config included, as it seems to be a) a pretty good default for the young/easily offended, and b) it includes a nice Gnome control panel to whitelist, blacklist, filter and otherwise tweak it.
- auhsor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At first I thought it was a joke and would have lame branding everywhere, but by the looks of it, it's pretty much Ubuntu with a few christian related apps on it. I think I might test it out.
- UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Why are links to real OS getting buried? I thought the OS was fictional until saw them.
- flappysocks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As Christians, can I ask you how you feel about there being a Christian version of Ubuntu? Just curious.
- MonolithTMA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4From the FAQ.
Q: Why should I use the Ubuntu Christian Edition if I can install the same software to the default Ubuntu?
A: The concept behind the Ubuntu Christian Edition is not to deviate from the Ubuntu community. It is intended to draw a larger Christian base to the already thriving community of Ubuntu users. The Ubuntu Christian Edition simply makes it easier for Christians who are new to Linux to see the power of Ubuntu combined with the added benefit of having the best available Linux Christian software pre-installed.
Sounds like a good idea. It's cool to see someone making an effort to bring more people into the Ubuntu fold. - sixdays, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dude, there really is an Ubuntu Christian Edition...
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12unlike Linux's: plug, write then config your own drivers?
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+310 Sin
20 Goto hell - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Yes there is. And the reason for it's existence is that fascist ***** (priests etc) wants to dominate you. Why else would it contain a ***** of filtering software and software for browsing through the bible etc."
Wow the tinfoil hat crowd is out in force tonight. This may come as a shock to you, but some people don't like to view certain content and don't want to stumble on it accidently. Does it really bother you that much? Does it really even affect you at all? It's not like Fred Phelps is sneaking into people's houses at night, installing it on their unsuspecting computers. - ethernode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2excellent geekee humor :)
- Narpas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I bet you that I could get a coupla my friends hooked on ubuntu with this. Seriously, it's probably made for converting Windows-using Christians, rather than Linux users.
- EnergyUK, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7chris9902 - It's called a joke, I am currently a windows user (apart from when at university). I like pretty much most of the big OS's and I'm versed with them. I'm not on some team screaming that linux/windows/osx/whatever is god. You don't have to protect your favourite OS with your life, it'll survive on its own... honest!
- Dobriak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, using the Christian edition, how do you chmod 0666 without burning in hell?
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One question: If there actually is a ChristianUbuntu, why?
- EnergyUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I apollogise then, you get a lot of people on Digg determind for everyone to think the same way about their favourite OS. Then you get the people who just love the tech :)
- ethernode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd like to add:
In Ubuntu Christian Edition, a special BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) has been reintroduced, which looks like a long shining tunnel (LSTSOD : long shining tunneled screen of death) - yish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sixdays -
I guess you don't have a Jewish mum. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4mine was a joke (not a very funny one it seems)
text sucks. - sixdays, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Your jokes are just not funny.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's a shame there's not a troll flag for stories.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Or sudo passwd, and then you can su to root..
Anyway, I acctually found the real Ubuntu Christian Edition site more ammusing than this.. Hm
- Ben - gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yes! Let's all digg him up because he's an Atheist!

Behold! The real Christian Ubuntu!
For real :-)
// Practical agnostic... - phbradley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1brilliant!
- Auryn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1For Christians?
- adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5What, you don't believe in magic and superstition? ;-)
// Diggers: Before modding me down... prove me wrong. - ePlus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5But... Does it come with Bible 2.0?
- flappysocks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Because people like to belong to things, especially if its with like minded people. It reinforces their beliefs, and gives them more conviction in their faith. Very dangerous IMO, as it leads to extremism.
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Oh my sweet fake Jesus. There really is a Christian edition. *runs off to make a satanist edition*
Just out of curiosity, would you say Christian Ubuntu is the road to salvation? Prrraaaaiiiissseeee Jeeesus, our Lord and Savior! :) - Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Ubuntu doesn't create a password for root by default, meaning you can't su -
- sixdays, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Yes there is. And the reason for it's existence is that fascist ***** (priests etc) wants to dominate you. Why else would it contain a ***** of filtering software and software for browsing through the bible etc.
