They just seem like the best role model we've got *so far* considering their success in creating a whole subculture around Macintosh for example or the hype they managed to generate around iPhone for another excellent example.
They do good marketing alright... pity it is for the products of lock in. We have a better thing up our sleeves, we just need to wake up and start talking to the masses the way the masses would listen and react - good innovative marketing, like Apple but BETTER.
Oh and I am not at all supporting Apple as a company by praising their marketing. In a contrary I believe the tool is in the wrong hands, but it's a good tool. It's good marketing nevertheless and we need that tool. - hackmeister, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Apple hates freedom! Nothing new there. As far as their products being "sexy", I don't see it. It's the same crap hardware made in the same crap factories by semi-slave labor. So what if their cases are marginally nicer looking.
- ArthurSucks, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1While I agree the Linux has an image problem, I don't think that Apple is quite the target we want to go after. I think we need a newer edgier attitude that what Apple can get at. In my head it's always been that Microsoft was the geeky guy, Apple was the cool kid, and Linux was pure punk rock. DIY all the way.
