- baalzebub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i get the best performance from NOT letting Debian install anything that has to do with AudioVideo and build alsa, taglib, libao, mpg321 & etc all built from source, the best media player i found is MPlayer compiled with the essential codecs package, xine is ok but i have found a few media files would play horribly on xine and be severely pixalated where they would play great in MPlyaer...
i do care about what file formats are used, but i do not care to the point that i deprive myself of watching or listening to AudioVideo files, so all those developers that think they are on a crusade against closed file formats i agree with your philosophy but not your implementation of evangelism...
after i abandoned Slackware ubuntu lasted a total of 5 days on my PC before the hand-holding left a bad feeling of being too Windozey, Debian will do for now, and am going to try Arch soon since Arch just published a new release, Crux takes a little more work than i have time for and i noticed a few misconfigurations in Crux's ports (more work) but Crux is a good learning tool or great for a bare bones server distro,,,
