- expert01, on 10/29/2008, -1/+9God dammit! You just HAD to tell me at 12:02am, didn't you, *****?
The whole internet is mocking me right now. - sexybobo, on 10/28/2008, -1/+9Flash as in flash player or flash the tool to let you build flash programs.
Flash player is on linux native same version as windows. - Ademan, on 10/29/2008, -0/+7I'm sorry, what "***** upstream" mentality with debian? I've spent alot of time checking out the packaging side of things, and I've seen patches go both ways, and the debian package maintainers don't seem bugged...

- TheGreatNico, on 10/29/2008, -0/+6too late
- waspbr, on 10/29/2008, -0/+6yesterday this would have been really great news...
- colincornaby, on 10/29/2008, -0/+5I have Wine and Crossover both installed on OS X.
Crossover does some things better. For example, Wine for Mac runs entirely inside X11, which means that applications in Wine don't get their own dock icons, which makes them a little harder to manage. Crossover also pulls the stable code from the Wine tree, whereas I had Wine does some pretty weird text related things for a few builds.
For a while only Crossover had OpenGL support, whereas Wine didn't. X11 related stuff again.
I would prefer to use the official Wine builds, but they just aren't there yet. - TheWindBlows, on 10/29/2008, -0/+5He's starting to make profits barely not enough to call it a profit company but it's one of those things that takes time and he enjoys having the company.
- jbond, on 10/29/2008, -3/+7Why not just install Wine? Oh. Wait. This is the Mac. It's not real unless you pay for it.
- AngelBunny, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3i missed it :(
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3God I wish Beer was free! gotta try this out.
- penguinofspades, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3the beer is a lie
- CalcProgrammer1, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3I couldn't reach the registration page, so I just downloaded the unlocked versions. I have all 4 of them (Mac, Games Mac, Linux, Games Linux) saved on my PC and on our dorm network. I'm sure you can find them elsewhere online if you didn't get a chance to download today.
- metalgel, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3they are saying it could take a few days now but were offering unlocked software for the day on the site.
- photonics, on 10/28/2008, -0/+3this already made it, but i dugg it up as a reminder...just tried it out...it's great!
- fspressonline, on 10/28/2008, -1/+4This might be the thing to send me back to Ubuntu
- septicmadman, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3Spore runs much better than on vanilla wine.
- centerblack, on 10/29/2008, -0/+3Yea... they cut it off before midnight PST.
Oh well. - damntourists, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2old news, as in this was a top story yesterday.
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Extra fail if you live in australia like me.... 28th was a long time ago
- BossKey, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Alternatively, one of these days there will be so few holes left in the software choices on other platforms that no one will need to run Windows virtualization or emulators.
- Willnz0, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Only I can? Sucks to be the rest of you.
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3I'm not.
Ok, just a little. - MacParrot, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2@thepretext
Absolutely nothing. It was a free (as in beer) shot - inactive, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3Ummm the lame duck challenge is over... don't get too excited on old news
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/29/2008, -3/+5Forgive me if I'm not leaping for joy. From my experience, Crossover sucks for most things. Game performance and quality is crap, usually less than half of native performance in OS X as opposed to Boot Camp. If your app isn't on the supported list, good luck getting it to run. It's good for some things (website testing in IE, for instance), but for the most part, performance is lousy and compatibility is limited.
- neowolfwitch, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Just below the email address submission form were links to directly download unlocked (no need for serial number) versions. If you submitted your email- the reply page said it would take "a few days" to get a serial number. Their servers were simply overwhelmed between Digg and Slashdot, and probably dozens of other popular sites posting stories about it.
CodeWeavers rocks. - JamesMorris, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Since when is beer free...
- custangro, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Is there at least cake?
- circleback2, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Damn not accepting anymore
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Except Crossover Games is very much designed for gaming. While compatibility with games is improved, it's still crap in the performance department.
- MacParrot, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Game performance outside of stuff they have tested heavily and modified their code for is very limited. In the previous version if a disc was required to be mounted for play, it didn't work. I hope the new version is better. I downloaded it and we'll see, but bootcamp is still the better overall solution for Windows on a Mac.
- zip000, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2I don't know why, but Flash sucks on my linux machine. It runs very slowly and is often jerky - and everything is much worse if I try to do full screen.
I had trouble getting flash working at all. Of course I hate flash anyway. - JQP123, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1Don't forget to bang your shoe on the table as you say that.
- dreesemonkey, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1free as in beer is like so 18 months ago
- kevdawg, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1So whats the difference between Wine and CrossOver?
- zip000, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1I'm sure that this runs better than regular WINE, but I'm very reluctant to install anything that isn't actual open source on my machine. (though I do (reluctantly) use the proprietary nvidia driver)
- NoSalt, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1Like my grandmother would say ... "a day late and a dollar short".
FAIL - MacParrot, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1Try GraphicConverter. There is an unlimited free trial (nagware)
http://www.lemkesoft.com/ - phogster, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1i believe the quote you are looking for is:
"Once again, things that could've been brought to my attention YESTERDAY!" - 1nhuman, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1The only Windows application I care about to run on my Mac is Visio, which still doesn't have a gold medal. I hate Visio, I mean the program hasn't much evolved ever since MS bought it years ago. I do most of my work in Omnigraffle, but I digress.
Anyway, I'm using Vmware Fusion to run Visio at the moment. Does anyone use Visio on a Mac with Codeweavers? - theratdotus, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1i tried this to run tf2 on my macbook....ill stick with bootcamp.
