linuxhow2.com — The French police force have decided to fully adopt the Linux operating system. This is a continuing trend in Europe where government run institutions are running towards Linux with open arms. Will this trend pick up in the U.S.?

'Retired' Gates is trying to lobby. Very busy for a retired man...- eclipse007, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2" 'Retired' Gates is trying to lobby. Very busy for a retired man... "
Gates retires on July 2008 which means he has about 6 months of full-time work left.
I see you changed your quoting format to a less atrocious one, maybe it's time to fix your addiction to misinforming too.- boomboommike, on 01/31/2008, -1/+0You're an animal!

- skarbreeze, on 01/30/2008, -10/+4Tough call - digg it because it's linux related, or bury because it involves the French?
- daftman, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8do you have a proper reason to hate the French or is it just fashionable to think like the rest of the mob?

- dszyszka, on 01/30/2008, -2/+12Without the French there would be no America, we owe them everything. Pick up a history book sometime and read it.
- StanStutter, on 01/31/2008, -6/+6A lot of American blood was spilled on the beaches of Normandy. Let's call it even.
- dschilli, on 01/31/2008, -3/+6Do you even know who we where fighting in that battle? It was the Germans you idiot.
- yetAnotherCroc, on 01/31/2008, -4/+4woooosh
- strogg4ever, on 01/31/2008, -5/+1me eats humans, 'specially german nazis
- StanStutter, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Yes, they were Germans. U.S. Forces went to France twice during the 20th century to fight for French liberation from the Germans. I think the debt we owe to France for their assistance during the American Revolution is paid up. So, what's your point?
- daftman, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2I think the point is that if you didn't "paid the debt" you wouldn't have a free America anyway. So it's more like a duty rather than a favor. Furthermore US was not the only country involved in the wars that wasn't from Europe.

- 000dom000, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5sounds good. this is the main way to get linux, (particularly ubuntu) more commonly used
- nitsnipe, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4WTF is with americans hating the french so much?
I bet the excuse for not adopting linux in the US will not be because they dont know about it, but because it's French.- daftman, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Because they watch to much Fox.People are usually dictated by television rather than logic.

oh god that's priceless. Do you write your own material?- boomboommike, on 01/31/2008, -2/+0No, I'm pretty sure they have a Linux robot that writes it for them. The robot's name is "chris9902 is a weiner"

unfortunately it would take a revolution in the UK for this kind of news. the current public sector decision makers are Microsoft trolls. - ukblacknight, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Gotta give it to the French on this one! The success of this move is vital for other governments and the private sector, who might be considering open source alternatives. Still though, if the UK government ever made the move, I could bet they wouldn't decrease taxes to reflect the savings :
