- YodaJones, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4I figured it was not Foxconn's doing. I believe most motherboard makers get their BIOS' from a small circle of companies. They (the BIOS makers) are most likely the ones in cahoots with Microsoft for screw up Linux compatibility.
- sirhomer, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4Talk is pretty cheap, lets see if they actually follow through with this update.
But hey I've said this before about ATI, when you get a bunch of angry people together and complain about a product, you typically get results. No company wants to look bad, even to a minority of people. Because it often only takes a minority of people to completely trash a companies reputation, especially in such a competitive market like motherboards. - shrewduser, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3i don't really care who's fault it is but thankfully its being fixed pronto, i love now that hardware companies fear the wrath of the linux community... mwahahahaha :)
but seriously consumer power ftw. - YodaJones, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Hey man, don't get me wrong, I think you are doing a fine job with this. Hats off to you. I just think this isn't a problem specific to Foxconn. How would we be able to test all the motherboards out there? That's a lot of work. I have a Asus P5KC and I am starting to wonder about it's BIOS now after this debacle. I also have a Dell with the A09 BIOS, that one sure seems quirky form time to time.
- baron1984, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2That *IS* an affected model, call ASUS and request that they grab the patch from AMI that Foxconn is demanding.
- baron1984, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3Well, it could have been anyone's fault, because mobo manufacturers customize things.
And the way Foxconn blew me off with their "Get Vista" crap (like hell), and "Our stuff is standards complaint, Microsoft said so", really angered me, and combined with the BIOS behavior, I associated that with their malicious attitude. - baron1984, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Foxconn counterattacks:
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Foxconn_tries_counterat ... - sq377, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1"Do not buy a Foxconn motherboard until you see them explicitly issue a BIOS update for this problem!"
I don't think I'll even be buying from them then.
"I also want to be perfectly clear that while Vista will go out of it’s way to compensate for a corrupt BIOS, that does not mean the BIOS isn’t corrupt, you shouldn’t have to trust your data to this even if you use Microsoft products."
Why buy from someone who fails at writing a bios? They want my support now they would have to go as far as support an open bios, so someone else can take care of it. - baron1984, on 07/29/2008, -2/+1http://izanbardprince.wordpress.com/2008/07/29/ope ...
My official reply to this too - tama00, on 07/29/2008, -2/+1you guys are funny... the DSTS table isn't created from the BIOS..
- baron1984, on 07/29/2008, -1/+0Carl Brunning from Foxconn has stated that if any more Foxconn boards prove problematic, e-mail him, so if the Foxconn support channel doesn't help you, forward the info to me by leaving a comment on my blog, I'll see that it gets to Brunning, I don't want to pass out his email address though.
