- TritonX, on 05/29/2008, -0/+10Wifi not working? Did I miss something, of course wifi and other hardware will never work correctly if manufacturers don't want to make drivers or provides documentation. Wifi works perfectly if you get a supported chipset, do your homework and buy the right equipment, the cost is much cheaper than all the time you can spend trying to make windows drivers work under linux. Support those vendors who provides good linux support.
- weizbox, on 05/29/2008, -2/+7'Ubuntu’s announcement promised the Linux distro will “venture into interesting new territory,” requiring “the rugged adventurouseness of a mountain goat to navigate tricky terrain” and that Ubuntu will be “reaching new peaks of performance.”'
What are we, 5 years old? Come on...
I wish the goat analogy's ended there, but no such luck. After reading the entire article you really find out that this guy is giving us really no information at all. Some generality's sure, and the obvious updates to software, but nothing really substantial or ground-breaking. - weizbox, on 05/29/2008, -0/+5Yup yup.. it's annoying buying hardware that they won't even tell you how to use...
But the solution, like you said, is simple... just don't buy from those people :) - Scotchman, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4I hope Intrepid Ibex truly is an improvement on Hardy Heron - especially in the area of wireless connectivity.
- ptFoe, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Nice explanation about the road to Ibex and the numerous freezes along the way.

To say they will completely eliminate the WiFi issues across the board is a bold lie ('The developers say it will'). I wonder where the author heard such things from the developers. Sounds like something Ubuntu/Canonical would say, but not something a dev would say. - TritonX, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3It's the same old debate about manufacturer not willing to support all available OSes or at least open their specs.
- weizbox, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Because you have a supported adapter, obviously. Not all of work out of the box, or even after significant tweaking... some just don't work at all because there isn't a driver made for them that works with Linux yet.

Even in that small list of USB Adapters, almost half don't work at all, and a lot of the ones that do work, don't work 'out of the box'. - iRelinquish, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Whats wrong with you guys, half the fun is getting wifi to work!
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Is WiFi seriously that big of an issue? It's always worked fine for me...
