- Bitruder, on 07/04/2008, -0/+18Get rid of PDF?
Name a single other document format that:
a) Will work on every platform with free (as in beer) software.
b) Arbitrary formatting that looks the same everywhere (ie, not HTML/CSS)
c) Is a standard format like PDF is. - Dongvid, on 07/03/2008, -1/+16I have beta 1 and I am extremely impressed. No more choppy performance when I scroll quickly in my browser and it never freezes on high-quality youtubes anymore. Everyone on Linux should install this, it makes the desktop experience much better!
- podgey22, on 07/04/2008, -0/+15It's a pity that this version also introduces a plethora more complications. wmode (what gives transparent and page-relative Flash) is buggy as hell. Install b2 and go to http://www.bbc.co.uk and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Fullscreen performance with compiz enabled still isn't good. It's better but it's still awful. Compiz's desktop zoom is much more useful at the moment.
It's great that they're looking at getting 2002's Flashplayer features working on Linux but it's still got a hell of a way to go before it's even close to on par with the Windows version. - TychoQuad, on 07/04/2008, -0/+13I'm just happy to have working flash webcam support.
- aetherane, on 07/04/2008, -1/+11Hopefully this makes 64-bit work better. I just switched to swfdec yesterday because I was sick of Flash crashing when more than a few SWF files were open at once.
- Darkaged, on 07/04/2008, -1/+10No, he physically removed the drive and scratched it to remove the information from the disk.
- e68895f, on 07/04/2008, -0/+7Yes, I'm sure no one would mind if youtube just suddenly disappeared...
Back to html 1.0, thats the way to the future.... - inactive, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7manually?
- macaholic, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6Still no native 64-bit support unfortunately. It works when you use nspluginwrapper, but it's still really buggy, especially with compiz and flash videos.
- klitzbtc, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7Screw flash, still every time I load a page Firefox 3 + Flash my CPU jumps up to 70% usage. With compiz everything is still choppy and unwatchable in full screen mode.
It recognizes my webcam, which is frightening and useless.
The sooner the collective internet starts detaching itself from flash the sooner we can all enjoy browsing again. - dshPls, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5Not to mention PDF's and SWF's use vector's, which significantly cuts down on load times.
- azher, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4nice to see this new version
- SteveMax, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3There was a post on the penguin.swf blog about that some time ago. It's an interesting read: blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/ 2006/10/whats_so_difficult_64bit_editi.html
- mgbdeftones, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Just an FYI for potential users:
Initially I found it to solve stuttering flash issues, etc. Then came the 20+ firefox crashes, so I switched back to version 9 :(
Hopefully with a few bug fixes it'll be really ready for mass testing - itech7, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3nice. Life on Linux is going on improving since the origin of Linux :D. And it has been improving at a *very* high rate since 2-5 years.
- CCmachined, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Flash is optomized for Windows, and as such Flash is much much faster there.
sorry, but Flash is only a problem to who Adobe imposes that problem on: Linux users.
oh and btw, just zoom in with compiz to a youtube video, works for me :D - courtjester555, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2It's still a pain to deal with sometimes (slow to load/open), but I never realized the role it actually plays. Point well taken.
- Spr0k3t, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Wake me when 64bit is released...
- jexdawg, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2fullscreen flash still choppy, as per hulu.com =(
- drzeus, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2The release notes say, "For Linux, the hardware acceleration feature will not work if you are using a compositing window manager (compiz)." They're aware of it.
- clonek, on 07/04/2008, -3/+4in OSX I had to physically deleted my old Flash plugin from /Library/Internet Plugins/ before the v10b2 would install
- ilgaz, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Is there a way you can check if it is multi-core/SMP enabled on Linux too? They made it that way on OS X, I am sure it has something to do with it.
- ileftfark, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Many um, "flash video sites" aren't recognizing the beta (Astro) version of Flash. Also, I've experienced a complete OS freeze when testing V4L2 support on a flash-based webcam site. That only happened once, though, but even working, it's pretty ugly. Better than nothing. But that first part is a deal breaker.
- bsmang, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Well, if PDF editing software were as ubiquitous as the text editor, and it was the driver of the internet, then I'd have nothing to bitch about, but it's not. It is great for working with print materials, but beyond that I find it mostly just a hassle and a waste of time and bandwidth and other resources.
- k82l, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1i can't use it in my slack 12 install. it says glibc is to old. beta one installed, but sucked so bad i immediately downgraded back to 9.
- vertexoflife, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I seriously don't have a problem with the clock, everyone else does.
- parax, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1It does fix the menu problem. Unfortunately a lot of sites are completely unusable. For example, the Guild Wars www.guildwars.com web site completely freezes my computer now. In previous versions this site just had transparency problems.
I'm glad progress is being made, it's about time the menu bug was fixed. Hopefully the Flash 10 final version will bring it all together - armo, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1vote for it:
https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-37 - KWhat, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1Clip9, no there code is heavily optimized with assembly which cannot be cross compiled. If it wasn't for that optimization wankers like you would be complaining about how effin' slow flash is.
- ilgaz, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1You better report BOTH site and Adobe. It is the purpose of testing a beta flash really.
- lync, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1with beta 2 version, flash player no longer recognizes my webcam.... rolling back to beta 1...
- inkubux, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1It crashes even more
- serenityflexed, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1You have a point. Firefox (with Flash b2, it think, but might be b1) crashed every time I tried the link.
- Onestone, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I tried beta 2 yesterday. Although it has significant new features, it's extremely unstable, and causes the browser to crash on many sites. I'm back to beta 1, which has worked flawlessly for me.
- jay019, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I found flash videos look smoother to an extent, but they also introduced some funky artifacts. It does seem a bit more stable for me though.
One thing I do love is that dhtml menus can now cover flash and work properly, this make me anticipate the full release! - JohnnyKdiggs, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Would anyone care to explain how to update to this latest version using Hardy Heron (with nspluginwrapper)?
- admiral101, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1Much quicker and more stable, however this doesn't detect my webcam, version 9 did. Oh well, never use the thing anyways.
- kleverness, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1Turn on hardware acceleration in 32 bit Firefox on 64 bit GNU/Linux.
Massive fail :(
C'mon, release a 64 bit flash plugin Adobe! Pleeeeeease.... - LoreArtifex, on 07/04/2008, -0/+0It doesn't work well on my pc. Switch back to Beta 1. :|
- xiangxianni, on 02/15/2009, -1/+1Fullscreen performance with compiz enabled still isn't good. It's better but it's still awful. Compiz's desktop zoom is much more useful at the moment.
Registry Cleaners
http://www.registrycleanersreviews.info - klitzbtc, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Nice trick, thanks.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1Uhh... what? Is it the FF fanboys that are burying the ***** out of this or what? It's true - I'm running Opera 9.50 64-bit and it's beating the living hell out of NSPluginWrapper + FF 3. Live with it...
And BTW, kleverness, it will work exactly the same way in a 64-bit PC as a 32-bit one if you are using 32-bit firefox with no plugin wrappers. I don't think FF and Flash are doing to well. - clip9, on 07/04/2008, -3/+1They don't explain anything interesting. What they say is basically that their code is not 64bit safe. And so ***** what. Writing 64bit safe code is trivial. So, the Adobe flash developers writes crappy code.
- xGrill, on 07/04/2008, -4/+1Adobe has made flash even more bloated
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -7/+2Turn on hardware acceleration.
Massive win ;D
Opera 64bit is absolutely flying. I guess I'll be forgetting about Firefox for a while. - bsmang, on 07/04/2008, -12/+4The world would be a far better place if flash just disappeared. It's right up there with PDF in my book.
- clip9, on 07/04/2008, -11/+3Why can't they compile a 64bit version? Are Adobe developers retarded? But I still wish flash would just die.
- spacebuddy, on 07/04/2008, -11/+2ROFL Linux.
- mickstephenson, on 07/04/2008, -13/+3I don't care coz I love freedom so much I use Gnash.
(note: the above comment is a lie, and any such comment you see anywhere is also a lie, no exceptions) - swizz, on 07/04/2008, -12/+1"and it never freezes on high-quality youtubes anymore"
don't you mean youpr0n? :-)
