- TacticalPenguin, on 01/13/2008, -0/+22Now we need somebody to make fedora get the same instant front page trick that ubuntu has.
- Archaic1, on 01/13/2008, -2/+23I, for one, welcome our new open source overlord
- crownedgriffin, on 01/13/2008, -0/+17Hells yeah! Finally a web page that renders correctly in Lynx!
- elithrar, on 01/13/2008, -0/+7Get some 'real' Fedora forums going, build on the community, branding and marketing and we'll be in a really good way.
- loupgaroublond, on 01/13/2008, -2/+7Awesome. Having met Paul Frields today, I think he'll do great.
- rahulsundaram, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4Of course. Since Fedora Project is where NetworkManager is developed and where the upstream Linux wireless system maintainer works at, I am pretty sure, Fedora understands this very well. Feel free to send more feedback to fedora-devel list or file bug reports in http://bugzilla.redhat.com
Feedback done right is a pretty good contribution. - darkchild, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4Whats wrong with fedoraforum.org? Its not an official forum, but a lot of RedHat and Fedora developers as well as other contributors hang out there.
- rahulsundaram, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4That's a really odd comment about innovation considering that most of so called innovations in other distributions come from Fedora. Refer
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RedHatContributions for some details. One example would be that PulseAudio is already the default sound server in Fedora 8 while many other distributions are going to make it default only in the next release.
Did you have anything specific in mind? - DiFosfor, on 01/13/2008, -1/+4Anyone else read "Fedora projects hi-res (high resolution) new leader"? Guess I'm still a bit sleepy.
- mmcgrath, on 01/13/2008, -1/+4I do computers, not english.
- rahulsundaram, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Like I thought you simply haven't looked at the origin of what you recognize as innovations. Launchpad is a proprietary web service and I don't how a proprietary service is a contribution to Linux in any substantial way. Fedora Project prides on having everything out in the open including all of it's infrastructure which includes the build system, updates system, mirror manger, bug tracking system etc.
The printing system you are so enamored with is from Fedora Project and contributed by Red Hat. What they include is a utility called system-config-printer and while they have made some bug fixes, the majority of the development is still done by Red Hat and Fedora has included it by default for atleast 3 releases now. Some details at

I would suggest that Red Hat still has done far more than any other organization in bringing Linux everywhere including the enterprise. - edevil, on 01/13/2008, -1/+4RedHat has contributed many things to Linux. There is no doubt about that. But lately Ubuntu has been spearheading the Linux development. With their new Bzr and Launchpad technologies, it is easier for 3rd party developers to develop software for Linux. Take Gnome-Do for example.
I love RedHat's Liberation fonts and PulseAudio is fantastic. Without RedHat, Linux would not be what it is today.
But without Ubuntu, linux would not have made it to the mainstream.
Fedora is a good distribution. They have come a long way since the good old RHL days. But what i'm saying that Fedora does not have as many awesome new features as Ubuntu. Have you tried the printing system in 7.10? Simply WOW.
I hope that with Paul Frields' leadership, Fedora can bring some (more) enhancement to the Linux world. - martalli, on 01/13/2008, -3/+5Your new open source overlord. I worship at the temple of the great Debian.
/jk - Waiting2awake, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1It is the only way I can help. Thankfully - I haven't have to help much. Although I'd love to know why konqueror keeps crashing on flash pages..Not a big deal, they seem to be aware of the problem. And I can't get Opera installed on FC8, unhandled exceptions... But other than that....
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2Some of us do both.
- mmcgrath, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Nope. You get to pick 2 of 3. Computers, English, civility towards your fellow man. Which two did you choose?
- anshuman, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Awesommeee :D
- baalzebub, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2yeah! that will make all the UbuNuts jealous...
- newwatch51, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1w00t for lynx.
- mmcgrath, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I don't.
- thfpt, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1You mean the printing notification system developed by Tim Waugh at Red Hat?

Take for example, the latest report on Linux kernel contributions.

Red Hat is the largest contributor to Linux. If you consider them leeches, I wonder who you would consider as givers? - inactive, on 01/13/2008, -2/+3I do gum chewing, not walking. What's the matter, not enough room in your brain to hold computers and English at the same time?
- AlesDigg, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0Fedora 8 actually works better than Ubuntu on my laptop. I am a bit fed up with waiting for new updates to come into Ubuntu's repositories, while I have noticed that fedora's packages have more bugs fixed (ie. in the case of deskbar-applet which was chrashing everytime I used it, while on fedora it works perfectly)
I also like newer kernel versions they provide. - bngsudheer, on 01/13/2008, -1/+1Congratulations to Paul. I am sure he will lead Fedora project effectively.
- dattaway, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2Fedora isn't in the Constitution, but the Constitution will serve as the Vice President with Paul.
- spurdy315, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1way to go JACK! cheers!
- elithrar, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2They're horrible ugly, very plain and not marketed as well as they could be. The advice there is great, but sometimes I feel there isn't enough of it. The Ubuntu forums are Linux Forums Done Right - Fedora could take a leaf out of their book.
- schestowitz, on 01/13/2008, -7/+6Definitely seems like a Fedora expert ( http://www.redhatmagazine.com/2007/02/15/book-revi ... ), so the project is in good hands. Isn't Global desktop launching later this month ('desktop RHEL') to 'compete' with Fedora?
- MrTulip, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1shut up, you dorks.
can't believe it... - inactive, on 01/13/2008, -5/+3"Having not worked at Red Hat hiring Paul Frields shows, once again, how committed Red Hat is to fostering community and Open Source."
If you really must add your own editorial comment, at least try to formulate it in something remotely resembling a grammatically correct sentence. When you start the sentence with "Having not worked at Red Hat", first of all you need a comma right after "Red Hat" and, secondly, the person who hasn't worked at Red Hat needs to be the subject of the sentence. In fact the subject of this sentence is the clause "hiring Paul Frields", and clauses can't work for anybody, last time I checked. What you probably meant to say was something like:
"Hiring Paul Frields, who has not worked at Red Hat, shows, once again, how committed Red Hat is to fostering community and Open Source.
This is still not the most elegant construction but at least it is grammatically correct. - JarLeachJim, on 01/13/2008, -2/+0First order of business, easy WIFI configuration and management!!!!!!!!!
At least for us who don't like to spend every waking hour tweaking our Fedora OS. - inactive, on 01/13/2008, -6/+2Ron Paul can't even spell Fedora but he can recite the Constitution without taking one breath.
- Sabot, on 01/13/2008, -7/+1Now I wonder if they can get past their image of Red Hat's dumping ground. A place were they run their experiments on the community, so they can extract as much value from us as possible for their paid product. Red Hat you are just a bunch of leaches, and I will not give you a second more of mind share.
- edevil, on 01/13/2008, -9/+1I hope he can lead Fedora to some nice developments in the future. Fedora today does not have many innovative features as much as Ubuntu. I really hope they can catch up.
Ubuntu has shown that a good product with good marketing can go a long way. Fedora is already an excellent product. I hope they focus on polishing it further and advertise it to bring more people to Linux. - mufffin, on 01/13/2008, -16/+2Go Fedora! Go Ron Paul!
