- s0m31john, on 05/15/2008, -0/+9I installed Fedora 9 today after my Ubuntu 8.04 upgrade got on my last nerve. It's just as good, if not better. Everything worked after a fresh install, which I can't say about Hardy Heron.

KDE > Gnome - ldog, on 05/16/2008, -0/+14.0.3 is slightly better than 4.0, but it still is bordering on unusable.
First, I don't like the black taskbar. Where do I change the color? The themes don't do it.
Second, The taskbar is HUGE. So I changed it to "Tiny", now the clock's numbers are only halfway visible and there's no way to chage that.
Third, konqueror file browser now launches items on a single click. What happened to option to use the double-click?
Fourth, I hate the new launcher. Mouseover is supposed to open submenus, users shouldn't have to click to drill down.
Fifth, the new launcher decided on its own to open a couple hundred pixels away from the taskbar.
Sixth, Konsole used to be the best terminal. The new tab button has been removed and now it's just the same as the gnome terminal.
And on and on.
I know this well eventually get better, but it sure seems like a whole lot was given up just to go from qt3 to qt4. - MrViklund, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Well. I guess things will improve over time. I really like the new KDE.

Gnome anything > kde 4.0.x
I'm trying to like kde 4, but I can't manage to customize anything. It should still be considered a beta. - dmadip, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1When did KDE4 become strong? Still parades around like a shiny new polished terd
- HarryBauzonia, on 05/15/2008, -2/+2How can you judge boot times off of a live CD? If you're talking about an installed version, you can speed Fedora right up by disabling SELinux and IPV6 services. With those running Fedora is quite slow.
I'm with you on KDE 4 though. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -4/+3I tried the Fedora KDE4 64-bit LIVE CD last night and the KDE4 window manager didn't even work. The graphics card, an NVIDIA 8600, might have been the culprit but I couldn't even find the spot for hardware settings in KDE4 with a good 5 or 10 minutes searching. Also Fedora takes nearly twice as long to boot as Ubuntu. No Fedora for me and KDE is quickly losing me as a supporter. Shame too... I've ran KDE since version 1.0.
