- mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20As God is my witness, I'll pod any mother ***** that starts spamming local about his iPhone or Ubuntu. Yes, even in hi-sec.
- falloutsyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19RTFA. By the way it isn't a good configured wine, it's "Well" configured.
- marcos89, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17ugh.....no native port? jesus...
- dsanonline, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14EvE Online is still evolving. See, the game play continues to change and new things continue to be added. 5yrs old? Yes. Top notch still and fresh? YES! I know, I still play the game daily.
It's about time. The only reason I was still using the Windows OS was because of EvE. As soon as it's available on Linux... check it out... I'm switching. =) - TheSmiddy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6your account must have been glitched or something, because i did both of the things you did and nothing like that happened to me.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Not to mention they've upgraded the servers so its entirely solid state to improve reaction time. The whole thing is powered by a massive cluster of computers with ram drives only!
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7And the graphics, even at 5 years old, are still fantastic.
- Durinthal, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Age means less to a MMOG. Last I checked EVE was still gaining subscriptions, not losing them.
- InsaneMachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/5230/CCP-Announces-EVE-Online-Expansion-Pack-DX10-Renderer-In-Game-VOIP
they say here that the new DX10 graphics will come with Trinity II, scheduled for release with revelation 3, this November. - Kyderdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Just think If it would run on my iphone while I was using Ubuntu that would be great!
- gordonm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I hate to be a spelling Nazi, but your feeble attempt at being a grammar Nazi makes my head explode.
You should have capitalized "Nazi".
The contraction for can not is "can't".
*snort* - chapium, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7"a good configured WINE, but now nothing extra will be needed."
I hate to be a grammar nazi, but mistakes like this make my head want to explode.
Good = noun
well = adjective
WINE may be well configured or configured well it cant be good configured...
*grumble* - pioneerdew, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5EVE has continually released patches for those 5 years from new graphics to new content, not to mention for FREE. Now they are taking this one step further and adding support for platforms a lot of games dont bother with. This business model is what others should strive to achieve, and its no wonder they have such an active and faithful community.
- LemmingJesus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Eve is one of the best looking space sims out there, but it gets boring pretty quick.
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually the fun curve is a little different.
First its frustrating when you are struggling to get into frigates, then it's fun, when you are stable in a cruiser, then its frustrating, while you are working up to mediocre battlecruisers and eventually barely affording battleships. But then when you get to the point where battleships are expendable, you have 3 times your battleship's value in fittings alone, and you are able to make enough in game isk to pay your subscription fees. The game becomes very fun. The game becomes about politics, investment, player owned stations, large scale mining and trade operations, Blueprint originals. manufacturing, blockades, hired hits,etc.
If you want fun quick, I recomend getting up to cruisers, then working on frigates five every break you have, and getting into a Elite Frigate. You can be useful to large fleet operations in those. - chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It's good that it at least runs on Linux, but I'm still waiting for ATI's new drivers, which they said were coming out "soon".
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The age of a game means nothing. I have a decent gaming PC and a 360 yet I still play my N64 from time to time.
- Legato, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3funny... i always tell people its not fun till AFTER a month :/
- beders, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6You can play EVE online on the Mac using Crossover.
- skoles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This is what I was afraid of when they discovered how easily you could now run PC native programs on Intel Mac's. The whole idea of the UB programming was so that software ran it's best on BOTH Mac platforms (PPC and Intel). Now developers are going to push the lazy way out and use underlying emulation to quickly get the software onto OS X and you're going to be left with no software for the currently larger PPC userbase, and potentially buggy & unstable software trying to run under Windows architecture on OS X.
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The problem with adding PvP without consequences, is that players start using that to the exclusion of the original PvP.
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Then Buy a Stealth Bomber and be a Ninja
- Solkre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He already said he has a G5, not an Intel Mac.
- mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4You must be a troll from Blizzard or something because that's not the way subscriptions work.
- 16bit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm in ur Jita, cawsin ur LAG!
- MoonDogAFO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The game is fine. It might take a month to really get your feet under yourself and feel comfortable doing things, but EVE lets you do a lot of things beyond the typical shoot shoot shoot mentality. Mining, production, and trade are quite involved if those things float your boat!
- jasarien, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So battle grounds from WoW? They got very boring, very quickly.
- dsanonline, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Can we get a mirror? Site's down.
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I will switch to Linux once the Open Source ATI drivers are ready
- LukeD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They aren't on normal accounts, though they now have an "internal affairs" group to monitor it, and let a panel of players come in to "review" transactions in the database (that database that they run and maintain and can quite easily modify to hide whatever shadiness they want to)
Essentialy its got the playerbase orgasmic without actually being more than lip-service to playing by the rules. - mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Actually if you're on a trial account and but a month of time, your month only starts once the trial ends, or at least that's the way it used to work.
- reqage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3How about you post your screen name and we'll see how long you last.
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Said the man still playing Dark and Light
- kaffein, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That was in May, lots of industry related pissing on vista has happened and devs are swaying from it and dx10 currently.

^^^ 1:14 seconds into the video... - rhinopig, on 11/06/2007, -2/+4Yeah. I played it for a year because I was fascinated with the game mechanics (like all CS majors, game design is my ultimate goal), but finally had to quit because I just didn't play it any more. Sure I was making progress by logging in a few times a week to train skills and set up buy and sell orders. But I just wasn't playing it.
- InsaneMachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2how are you giving them $40 a month? an account is $15/month, i mean even with 2 accounts that's $30
- Marlz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Actually isnt it:
good = adj
well = adv ??? - harshbarj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I keep adding alts to counter the loss. :-) Soon me and my army of alts will rule the world.
- AlexMax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2EVE Online is rated Silver in Wine's AppDB, which means that it works almost-perfectly and with a minimal amount of prior setup.
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=9022 - r3zonance, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's not "can not", it's "cannot" :P
- squeee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I played EVE for nearly 3 years, the game was fun and for the most part the people were great. I never had any subscription problems, even when I canceled. The only account problems I ever had was when they reset thousands of passwords for some reason or another and I had to go remember the password to my old spam catching email address.
What finally sucked all the fun out of the game for me was when I realized that I could play Battlefield 2 at full graphics with 64 others and still get less lag than 64 people in EVE shooting each other with the graphics turned all the way down, sound turned off, and half the time using the ingame map to fight a battle. PvP in EVE can be fun at times, but the big battles it just can't handle. - AlexMax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2With EVE, you can take every frame that you can get. Lag can get bad, very bad, even on modern computers.
And isn't Transgaming the same company that is still maintaining BSD Wine plus hacking in support for specific games? The same Transgaming that promised to help out the Wine project once it got X number of subscriptions and then subsquently took the promise off their page once they reached their goal? - Legato, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2gonna deactivate my account here in a week after a year and a half of good times and great people. im pretty excited to come back at some point in the future and have everything working, but right now the game is unplayable in scenarios they try marketing.
oh, and yeah, i have never seen a game pass off this many bugs that are never resolved - InsaneMachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yeah you are right, it seems as if the people with DX9 get the cool graphics too :D
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"The game mechanics of EvE are perfect in every way, it's just a shame it's such a bore"
... then they're not really perfect, are they? The #1 goal of game design should always be fun. - hmmdar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Biggest issue i have with this port is, how will they handle the dx9 and dx10 issues. since they are updating their graphics engine who knows.
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nothing scatters a Mining Op like a Manticore warping in at the extreme edge of a asteroid field then cloaking.
- fleury29, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1idk what dark and light even is so...
for your information i have played WoW stopped, played a variety of other mmos including eve and later returned to WoW so...
dont get mad at me because eve will never have the following WoW does. - mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Blow me.
- MoonDogAFO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, definitely snag EVEMon for your skill planning needs. Helps you to avoid losing hours of skill training time to sleep, planned server downtimes, etc.
