- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Old news. Why repeat it? As Fedora folks have explained before, if they need a bunch of proprietary components out of the box, there's OS X. They don't wish to compromise their freedom by delivering binary blobs to /everybody/ in the Red Hat community. Anyway, that's just one explanation (not mine). Other have criticised technical things that ESR did (especially leading to rants about RPM).
- Herolint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm glad this rant came from a respected member of the Linux community (at least E.S.R. used to be well respected, I honestly don't hear much about him anymore). I too used to be a loyal Red Hat user, but when Debian released Potato, it became clear to me that Red Hat couldn't compete anymore. While Debian has caused me a few problems over the years when I've been running Testing or Unstable branches, I have never had the nightmares I used to with Red Hat and upgrading RPMs; even using yum, which in my opinion is just awful.
I've run Debian and Debian based distributions ever since.
I think sometimes it takes a big swat in the back of the head in order to realize that the course you are taking is the wrong one. Hopefully, Mr. Raymond's post will be a catalyst for improvement in the Fedora community. - treehead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...and yet, you dugg it.

I guess my beef was that the original source wasn't submitted. But, fair enough.... - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't understand why Ubuntu users feel the need to turn distros into an internal Linux competition.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Inflated egos?
- subgeniusd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Rather then starting up another long argument thread about Eric Raymond you can just read the last long argument thread:

There wasn't that easier? - treehead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1> Old news. Why repeat it?
There's a digg entry that links to a Linux.com posting, but there is no link to the entire thread. The responses are just as important as the original post:

Eric made the mistake of addressing the types of software included. His real issue was with RPM, yum, and the repositories.
