- Phate8263, on 05/29/2009, -1/+20Moved to eclipse from netbeans awhile back, and never looked back. One gripe, they should include subversion(svn) support natively without having to use subclipse.

You idiot, your comment indicates that you didn't even read TFA. The whole point of the article was how industry IS backing open source...
FTA :
" ... Survey questions relating to open source usage and contribution show a healthy trend of growth relative to 2007.
... the number of companies that use open source but don't contribute has fallen sharply from 46 percent to 27 percent, reflecting overall growth in open source contribution and a significant decline in reluctance to participate (in open source)." - jamesmcm, on 05/30/2009, -2/+13*throws chair*
- amoeba, on 05/30/2009, -2/+10Linux is ideal for developing web applications and works perfectly for servers too.

- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1And buggy as *****. I have to restart it at least 3 times a day. Who knew that editing a JSP can cause a Stack Overflow error repeatedly?
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Tarkaan: You do realize that Eclipse runs on Windows as well, right?
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1...or for people who can be just as productive in vi as Eclipse or IntelliJ
- robmausser, on 06/03/2009, -0/+0only a matter of time my friend.
- Tarkaan, on 05/31/2009, -3/+1On their desktops? Sure. On the industrial controllers that run the machines? Not a chance. Not one single company makes a controller (GE, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Telemechanique, etc) that has Development software that is compatible with anything but Windows. Until they do, field techs will use Windows. *Industrial software does not run on Linux.* It's a fact of life. Deal with it.

- RyeBrye, on 05/30/2009, -9/+1Eclipse: The IDE for people who think that their time is not worth enough money to pay for Intellij IDEA (or who have managers who think that)
- Tarkaan, on 05/30/2009, -22/+2As successful as open source will ever be, it needs some real backing from folks in industry to really get anything but a pauper's market share. Industrial software doesn't run on Linux. WINE you say? It can't be validated. End of story.
