esr.ibiblio.org — One of the advantages of having helped found the open-source movement that I cherish most is that nobody can criticize me when I criticize it. I’m a gadfly by nature, disgusted by cant even (actually, especially!) when it’s my own insights being reflected back at me as dogma.

  • 4DFX, on 11/16/2008, -0/+4I always welcome constructive Linux critiques that make a good point. But please tell me, why on Earth does it have to be called _Linux-Hater's_ Blog? It's just going to be considered as trolling and nobody is going to take it seriously.

    There's so much that Linux users can learn from a bit of criticism. Like it or not, Windows fans generally accept Windows' failings. You're not going to hear many people say "it doesn't get viruses or crash" or "you rarely have to restart for no good reason". I love (Arch) Linux but I'm aware that things like the whole Qt/Gtk clash or the need to fsck every x mounts or the problems with offering distribution-neutral installers for closed software _need_ attention. Very good points here; very fair and thoughtful
  • subgeniusd, on 11/16/2008, -1/+2I'd like to know how anyone has the spare time to actually study the archive of a rather silly blog like this. I'm a huge ESR fan but I'm sure he has better things to do then fool around with something this irrelevant.
