Dolphin: A File Manager for Linux

polishlinux.org — Dolphin is the default file manager in KDE4. It is very powerful, offering many functionalities. The developers have focused on the functionality of Dolphin - being a file manager. As a long-time user, I can say it is a very proud substitute for its older brother, Konqueror (the default file manager in KDE3).

  • regx, on 11/13/2008, -1/+3Nice article (dugg), but I strongly disagree. For me dolphin removes most of my favorite features of konqueror. The first thing I do when I install KDE4 is set konqueror as my default file browser. Dolphin doesn't have profiles which is one of my favorite features in konqueror. There are several other things I do not like about Dolphin, but to each his own. It is there by default if you like it. It is probably easier to use for Moms and Pops, but if you don't like it just set konqueror as your default file browser or uninstall Dolphin al together.

    Besides that, Konqueror also didn't have many features that Dolphin has, like column view, group icons and tags. And it doesn't have that clutterd, confusing, and win-explorer like interface

  • regx, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2It also doesn't allow unlimited splits or tabs and has far less view modes. Things like virtual terminals have to be added via plugin, but are there by default in Konqueror. etc etc etc

    but beggars can't choosers, till ever get EnglishLinux, they are too busy with CC tvs
