- nielkie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+165The site is under a DDoS attack, so you submit it to Digg! Great Idea!
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+49Thank you captain obvious.
- distrowatch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+44Here is a full list of up-to-date DistroWatch mirrors:

- robuk24, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38What the hell is PCLinux doing at number1? I've never heard of it!
- baalzebub, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28i thought something was happening, i like to visit distrowatch everyday...
so many distros so little time... - GMorgan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28In Soviet Russia, Captain Obvious thanks You!!
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26Please digg, add a button for deleting comments.

- spyd3rweb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24C-C-combo breaker!!!
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I heard (and this is a crazy rumour, I know) that it was hit by a DDoS attack and is currently down.
- hyperair, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Thank you, Captain Redundant
- Markpdotcom, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25Thank you captain obvious!
- lioneljaffry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20My initial reaction was "Who would attack distrowatch? Whose skin could they possibly get under?" But then it occurred to me that the continued expansion of Linux is a threat to the botnet herders. If everyone swapped to Linux, their botnets would be harder to acquire. At the very least they'd need to re-engineer their attacks. More variation in the install base is a threat to the scum of the net. *sigh*
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17But, that brings up a question. If someone deletes their comments, what happens to all of our comments down here?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Its not bad, I still prefer Ubuntu over PCLOS.
But come on, can't you think of a better name than PCLinuxOS?! - GhostM, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I wanna delete this comment but can't, nice going Digg.
- Shananra, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Makes sense, they can't infect Linux users.
- adz999, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Thank you cap.. DOH!
- hyperair, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12So I hear that DDoS is called *Distributed* Denial of Service for a reason. The attack would most probably be from more than one location. It did say "massive" DDoS attack after all. I doubt any single computer can bring down a computer on its own unless it's a supercomputer or something.
- xGeneric, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Well what else do you expect Bill Gates to do on the weekend?
- homelinux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Believe it or not, I trying setting up Ubuntu on a new Everex laptop (for my mother) and display resolution was a big mess. I read somewhere that PCLinuxOS didn't have that problem and installed it. I was quite impressed to see everything working (well, except for the wireless card but that was expected). I'm happy to see this distro up there 'cause it looks good and is very user friendly (Did I say I'm a KDE user?).
- Stirk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Simple, the comment doesn't appear until the edit time is over.
And you can only delete it during the edit time - abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Sorry to break it to you, but lots of Linux distros have Live CDs.
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Thank you, Captain Redundant
- jmnormand, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18so you being behind the curve has what to do with the rankings?
- Stemp, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13or the PCLinuxOS bots that went berserk :p
- Barbosa, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10PCLinux is very user and noob friendly... with the live CD available so you can try and sort out any hardware issues before the HD install. I like PCLinux as much as Ubuntu.
- dg10050, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Where-ever would we be without Internet Detective juicebag? I thank you, and the internets thank you.
- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I prefer PCLOS to Ubuntu, but I definitely agree with you about the name.
- Shootfast, on 10/10/2007, -13/+20Now let's crash the Czech Republic mirror!!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10It's at number 1 of the most never heard of.
- juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11penis penis penis
- bmartin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Not only is it indistinguishable, but you can spoof an IP address; a programmer with even modest C exposure can disguise the IP addresses of a host computer, not to mention the attack is indirect (the attackers aren't "in charge". Determining the identity of the attacker is nearly impossible.
- natenovs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7even gentoo!
- dsm88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I was looking into it further and I came across this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3373088
So, it's not just me that's getting that IP.
I also tried another DNS server and I got 66.180.174.35, which is the correct address.
I think it is some sort of DNS attack, but it has not yet fully propagated to all DNS servers. - bmartin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They'd be better off packaging a screen-resolution-fixing program as a DEB and advertising it on Digg.
- dhughes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6 Is this related to the Storm botnet that's been in the news?
- manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I've been using Linux for years and I use Pclinuxos. I just don't brag about it every five minutes.
- shaunhey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's probably not even some sort of "attack". Someone probably just accidentally updated their DNS server with the wrong IP...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5So who is behind the attack? we must strike back!
- PeachCobbler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm typing this comment from PC Linux OS.
I use it as my main OS. I have Ubuntu installed on this computer too, but I boot into Windows more often then I boot into ubuntu. (and i only boot into windows maybe 3 times a month)
I think there's just more hype around Ubuntu. PCLOS is nice, but I, too, don't brag about it. - overmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7PClinuxOS is definitely gaming the system at Distrowatch, no LUG here in the US I've talked with has any 'admitted' users of PClinuxOS.
- EmxBA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4$ host distrowatch.com
distrowatch.com has address 66.180.174.35
distrowatch.com mail is handled by 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com.
distrowatch.com mail is handled by 5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com.
distrowatch.com mail is handled by 5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com. - Krhis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3DDoS'ed now Digg-f*cked...
- harlowsmonkeys, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I get 10.0.1.128 from home, and the correct IP from work. Checking it out starting from the root of the DNS system, it is correct down to their designated name servers, which are giving the correct IP address.
- InuX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This is why good people can't have good stuff. There will always be some idiot thinking he's so cool doing stupid things.
- dhughes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3 You have to start somewhere.
Someday they may actually learn something and really be dangerous rather than just annoying. - manicallday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's a good distro. I use it on my non server pc's. It's like a souped up Mandriva.
- seventoes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Thats why DDoS attacks are so effective, they are hard to distinguish from a normal burst of traffic to the site, and you wouldnt want to block normal traffic, so the only other easy option is to let everyone in, which then opens the site up to DDoS attacks... :-/
