- dicerandom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Could it be... a native torrent client for Linux that doesn't suck?! The idea of finally getting rid of Azureus brings a joyful tear to my eye.
- returnofmalv, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"I got rid of Azureus! ...by switching to uTorrent + Wine."
That's like x100 worse. - bettermentflux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Just trying it out now. There are some areas where it can use some further love (drag and drop support, for example) but it's an excellent start. Wouldn't be surprised to see this become the default Torrent app after a couple more point releases.
Two geeky thumbs up! - jojoman02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10If you use "wget -c http://address" in the terminal that might work for you, it just resumes from where google servers cut you off. A lot of people have been getting this problem afaik and a backup server would really be nice. Until then use wget (the best download manager imo).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Looks good. Hopefully this will take me off my Java dependency :)
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Maybe someone should make a torrent?
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I spoke too soon, it looks like Deluge can download certain files in a torrent. I think I'll try it out for a while, and hopefully in the future they'll add priorities to files.
The only downside that I've found is it consistently locks up when I try to change any preferences, or choose a download directory. I got around this by editing the ~/.deluge/preferences.xml file to have a global download directory. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mirror at http://burke.libbey.name/deluge-mirror
It should be up in about a minute. - zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Google's servers have been sort of flaky lately, so if someone could mirror the files, if may prove helpful.
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'll stick with rTorrent, it's just too nice and I'm so used to it.
- zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6that's been requested, and will likely fins it's way in via a Plugin
- FarcicalFart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow! I have not seen this yet. I'm going to test it out now.
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Looks like I'm gonna be sticking with Azureus. I like having the ability to pick and choose which files/pieces to download in each torrent.
- espergreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5APT repository:
deb http://espergreen.com/apt edgy main - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Looks nice but needs rss feed support. I so rarely add torrents manually.
utorrent + wine stays for a while longer i suppose - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The style is removed because I didn't feel like hacking around to get all the files in the right place ;)
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4haha me to, while i've made the switch to ubuntu, i've always kept windows loaded because i've always loved using bitcomet... and azureus doesnt come close! this does look quite promising, cant wait to try it out.. and hopefully when 24 season 6 starts i wont be rebooting all the time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It looks pretty slick, I'd like to see some of those features implemented in BitRocket.
- zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That's exactly what we've been telling our users to do
- thepxc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ktorrent can do that as well. Poor underrated ktorrent.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Azeurues also modifies the data in the file you are downloading. That if you switch clients in between the download they won't work. While Utorrent and BitComet are interchangeable.
Wine + Utorrent is the best option currently on Ubuntu.
KTorrent is banned on private trackers. - Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Indeed, my torrenting box is headless so screen+rtorrent is simply more appropriate, but Deluge looks like an extremely nice desktop torrent client. Huzzah for more choices!
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why's that? (Honest question)
- zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the client is all of ~2months old
once we add DHT support, the speed should go up - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just tried it and I am getting awful speeds.
- mrkott3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3time to get rid of the java dependency I reckon. I never liked utorrent under wine either.
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It will get you banned on a lot of trackers though.
- dukeinlondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3should get a prize for one of the coolest names in OSS.
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't download a lot of torrents, so my needs are pretty simple. In other words, as long as it works and I ultimately end up with the file, I'm happy. And I use Gnome, so GTK is a plus. I've just always used Transmission, which I never hear talked about. It doesn't have the eye-candy of Deluge but I might check it out anyway.
http://transmission.m0k.org/ - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks promising! Imma try it now. Dugg.
- benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A torrent for less than 5mb?
Anyway, here's another (not the repo, but the files):
benplaut.org/stuff/deluge - zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that's being discussed on the forums... we plan on supporting it once we get it to work.
- dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Missing a key feature.. transport encryption. I need it, i am on Rogers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sadly bitcomet doesn't work under Wine.
- traherom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apt worked fine for me. (not even really slow)
- stoffe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Worked both fine and fast now.
- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Failed to fetch http://espergreen.com/apt/dists/edgy/main/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2 Error reading from server. Remote end closed connection
Failed to fetch http://espergreen.com/apt/dists/edgy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Error reading from server. Remote end closed connection - Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2apparently transmission doesnt listen to what the tracker wants in terms of how often to update.
it just has a set time it will, which is too frequent and causes strain on the trackers. The spec calls for adhering to what the tracker wants, so transmission isnt to spec and that makes a lot of people unhappy, and it wont work on trackers.
of course you also have asshat tracker admins who dont know what they are doing banning people because of this instead of simply blocking the client (oink) - XVampireX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The problem with Deluge is that it's using Python, it's the same overhead as Java (Azureus), though of course, it will be lighter due to fewer features.
- Jon20usa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What about Rufus? I use the program a lot and it is really good.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"while i've made the switch to ubuntu, i've always kept windows loaded because i've always loved using bitcomet... and azureus doesnt come close!"
Don't use bitcomet, it's an evil program

If you are using Windows for torrents you should be using microtorrent, get it at http://www.utorrent.com/ - burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As nice as this looks, I like my current setup with box pretty much dedicated to torrentflux. ;)
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it not suck like Transmission (ie banned all over the place because they couldnt be bothered to follow spec)
Screen shots look awesome! - Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats cool, but please make sure DHT can be turned off completely and per torrent basis (and listens to the tracker on that too otherwise it will get banned)
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2anyone got a ppc binary
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can you run Bit Comet under Wine as well? I use it on my windows boxes and that's what I'm used to.
- swellowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmmm...sorry to inject this. did some say up there wget it the best download manager? give "axel" a try and look for its kde front end if u love gui. i love it on console and never tried the frontend. its equivalent of windows flashget(if u've used it before) & -n option let u tell number of simultaneous connections, -s regulate speed. i never look back at wget, occassionally though...
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Too bad you're banned from private trackers! :P n00b
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1*cough* dailymotion.com *cough*
