- czarr, on 06/25/2008, -0/+4Microsoft just has incentives which end up making it cheaper. +Think about all the crapware that dell installs on your vista before you get it, they don't do that for free.
- cquinnd, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1This has been long discussed in the past.
Not only does Dell get incentives from MS and other companies for bundled software, they have more practice (and lower costs) for installing and supporting Windows than they do for Linux (a this time). That cost difference is passed on to the customer.
In the future the prices should come more in line as Dell is better able to estimate support costs and have a better system in place to support Ubuntu after the sale. - czarr, on 06/25/2008, -1/+1This is Bullcrap
