Yes the `nixes are subject to the same security issues as Windows. Most are user based weaknesses, not following safe computer practices, not monitoring your file systems, not using a firewall with good rules. Tripwire is only good so long as the lib files that it uses are clean. Virtualization maybe the next big tool of crackers, a Virtual Machine that is an exploit is almost impossible to detect and nearly impossible to remove, short of completely wiping the hard drives and starting from scratch. As BIOS becomes more complex we may very well see exploits that over write parts of the BIOS, short of reflashing the EEPROM getting rid of the bugger may be impossible with out chucking the Motherboard in the trash. The best solution is due diligence.
