On another note, I do have to say that I am disappointed that they have firmware upgrades that Tivo-ize, as Richard Stallman would say, your phone. A platform that is awesome because of its openness, is going to suck if control over it is that important to carriers. It will, metaphorically speaking, slowly chocked to death leaving only proprietary software on a skeleton of open source software.
- weizbox, on 11/16/2008, -0/+1They released the updates (RC30) because it was far too easy to gain root access. For the people that know what root access is and want it, they can simply choose not to upgrade, or to use a modded RC30 that includes all the updates other than the one to cuts off root access, it's quite simple.
- Sanzanric, on 11/16/2008, -0/+0One should not have to use a modded firmware to stay in control of one's OWN phone. The update should not restrict freedom.
