- EdLesMann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BTW...b4 I get a bunch of "Condor is a part of Rocks, loser" type comments...I am talking about the implementation. Red Hat vs Fedora, individually built vs Flavor of Linux designed for HPC, ect.

Rocks. By far the best clustering tool out there. So easy a 5 year old could build a HPC. However it is nice to see other tools and what they can offer. Dugg. - ThaDaveMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds good..
now all we need is a windows version that does the same :-) - bsoric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with znxster, ClusterKnoppix is incredibly easy to use, also CHAOS is pretty good.
- cards, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can anyone give some examples of applications a home user might use this for? Also, I'm not sure I understand the concept correctly...is this saying it will use all computers in the cluster to complete a task, or will it just pass multiple queued tasks to whatever machine is available first? I'm wondering because I'd personally like to use this for transcoding video files quickly, but I'd only be doing one at a time. (Damn you video ipod and your lousy format support...)
- clustergeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To define Condor as being "part of Rocks" implies that it is developed by the Rocks group. Rocks -optionally- supports Condor through Rocks' roll mechanism. This allows users to easily use their cluster as a Condor pool. The Rocks folks and the Condor folks collaborate with one another at this particular intersection point. Rocks can be used with or without Condor. And Condor can certainly be used an installed on a very wide variety of operating systems (including Windows). Rocks lets you build clusters -- condor let's schedule and run jobs on clusters, grid, and pools of workstations.
- tomcat013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very good stuff. Yet another example how linux rocks
- dhcmrlchtdj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cards- the latter (multiple queued tasks). it works best with a large number of machines and a large number of long-running jobs, which is not likely the most typical home setup.
condor actually runs on windows, linux, and many unices. the downside to condor--the DDT, if you will--is the numinous array of potential errors constantly hovering nearby like so many africanized bees around a potential interloper. every so often one will sting you, and you pray the rest don't follow. - znxster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good stuff.. but well http://bofh.be/clusterknoppix/ Cluster-Knoppix.. thats the easier i'd argue
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Condor is part of Rocks, loser
