- groverblue, on 10/22/2007, -2/+43maybe the haven't implemented all features slated for 1.0
- icsbase, on 10/24/2007, -5/+28Wins Vista desktop effects 10-1.
- schestowitz, on 10/22/2007, -9/+30If it's the "first stable release", why not make it 1.0? :-)
- ubergeek09, on 10/23/2007, -3/+22Better than Mac OSX by about 20-1 too.
- grexeo, on 10/22/2007, -3/+17Stop teasing me. I'm still waiting for FGLRX 8.42...
- Hobo97, on 10/22/2007, -0/+14It's probably short for or derived from "compositing manager"
- martian, on 10/23/2007, -0/+12Hi, I've never heard of google either.
- nights0223, on 10/23/2007, -4/+12Just because it is at 1.0 doesn't mean it's done.
- Purin, on 10/22/2007, -1/+9Don't digg him down; this is a serious issue that bugs the HELL out of me.
It really needs to be fixed. - Ansible, on 10/22/2007, -0/+8Ah... swedish. A mashup of the word 'compositing' and the swedish word, kompis (buddy). And a 'z' thrown in for variation/hiphopness. Now it makes sense...
- ntwrkguy, on 10/22/2007, -5/+12one can only hope that this "stable" release includes titlebars in open windows, and doesn't cause firefox to go nuts when clicking on hyperlinks or switching tabs!
- mtekk, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7dude you need to keep up with the gentoo xeffects overlay for portage, they keep up better with anything graphics related. A howto is located at:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_xeffects - ZeroOrDie, on 10/22/2007, -2/+8Will this come up in the auto updater in Gusty Gibbons, or will I have to manually install this update?
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -0/+6I would like to know what he's talking about. I don't notice any problems...
- Hobo97, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7compiz fusion is not on the same version as compiz
- oodledoodle, on 10/22/2007, -2/+7its 0.5.2 at the moment (i think) but it'll be updated as soon as they add it to the repos i guess.
- Craga89, on 10/23/2007, -4/+9Shame this release couldn't have been finished early enough to be included in Gutsy, but congratulations to the Compiz dev team for polishing off an already great product.
- pygmalion, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5it's a composited system; multiple buffered layers with different opacity/blending modes system
- Gambit89, on 10/22/2007, -0/+5I know it says:
"Since 0.5.2 release there have been several hundred changes, most of
which are bug
fixes, improved error handling, translation updates[4] or other kinds of
improvements on existing code."
But is there a more specific change log somewhere? - enervation, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5Highly unlikely, after a release of ubuntu it's almost always security and stability updates only. Selected patches from 0.6.0 may be applied if they consider it necessary. However if may eventually appear in the gutsy-backports repository
- obxjdt, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5no, try a google search for your distro, or slashdot.
- specialK16, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4That's compiz.real (compiz core). Compiz Fusion is not in the repos yet.
- bob7, on 10/22/2007, -4/+7Because although it is stable, it is not done.
- wisam, on 10/22/2007, -1/+4You can always update using apt-get or Synaptic.
- monkeyboy7706, on 10/23/2007, -8/+11OMG the world doesn't follow ubuntus release schedules. Its a wonder the sky hasn't fallen in.
- mercurysquad, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3Enable the backports repository, it might end up there.
- zerblat, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=19 ...
- missingnoh4x, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2Gutsy includes Compiz 0.6, and Compiz-Fusion 0.5.2. You have the two confused.
- cawpin, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2Um, yes it is. Also Compiz Fusion = New Beryl
- GMorgan, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3Yes, everyone knows that the larger the number is the better the software. I mean MSO is miles better than OOo because it's version 12 while OOo is only at version 2.3.
Now if OOo wants to catch up they will drop the decimal point, instant market domination. - anshuman, on 10/22/2007, -3/+5anyone know which RPM repo is keeping compiz rpm uptodate ?
- kewlito, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3Anyone knows if they fixed the "switch user" bug?
- mmmiiikkkeee, on 10/23/2007, -1/+3a lot of people talk about software releases being greater/less then 1; I never understood what they were talking about. As far as I understand the release number just says if a given relaes is newer/older then another one. Did i miss some thing; did some one not tell me some other hidden meaning?
- yetAnotherCroc, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Whats with the hate? He was merely expressing that it was unfortunate. He didnt suggest the world should conform to the ubuntu release schedule. I am frankly surprised at all the anti ubuntu feelings on this site and in the linux community. Honestly its like lobsters keeping each other in the basket by not letting anyone crawl up on the edge without draging them down again. If linux never makes it on the desktop this specific behaviour will be cited by historians as the main reason.
- benplaut, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Within a couple hours, according to some folks on Phoronix

Keeping two fingers crossed, with the other hand holding a Colt Single Action Army pointed at this goddamn X1400. - SimonGray, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1THE WIKI.
- Shananra, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1What repo has it?
- andycr512, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Ubuntu Gutsy:
compiz --version
(...)
compiz 0.6.1 - cawpin, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the great equalizer.
- cawpin, on 10/23/2007, -1/+2Dugg for using "hiphopness".
- obxjdt, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1Think we understood it the first time it was said....
- leksdraven, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1It may be the first stable release but it's not feature complete. It would be as if Apple released Leopard as 10.5 but without some of the features they promised. Hm...Vista comes to mind. Anyway, yeah, stable does not always equal x.0 code.
- NOFXY, on 10/21/2007, -1/+2can anyone here validate zwaldowskis claim? i thought compiz fusion in gutsy was the "real thing." it works exactly the same as when i had it in feisty. is this just FUD and am i just feeding the trolls?
- wiihuck, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2same here...
- aaronm67, on 10/21/2007, -1/+2http://releases.compiz-fusion.org/0.6.0/
Or you can wait until someone releases some debs, which I'd recommend, because it'll be a pain in the ass to compile all those. - Ansible, on 10/22/2007, -4/+5Would someone explain to me the origin of the word 'compiz'? Is this just a made up word? Short for 'compizzle' or something? Is there any connection with the underlying technology?
- Disfnord, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1using XGL?
- runner108, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1I have no idea how to upgrade my computer.. Forgive me I am a complete newbie.. only using Linux Ubuntu Gutsy for a few days now. Although I love the package manager and the like.. sometimes I get frustrated I can't just download and double click.. Maybe people can't upgrade yet.. Idk..
- obxjdt, on 10/23/2007, -1/+2Why is this advice getting buried???
It's in good faith.... -
