Compiz 0.6.0 Released With New Plug-Ins

phoronix.com — In Compiz 0.6.0, the new Cube plug-in additions include transparency support, basic background support, and support for non-power-of-two sky dome textures. There is also now plug-ins for Glib, Ini, Fs (FUSE), and Video.

  • rizla420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I recently got another 24" widescreen to complete the dual monitor setup (Saaweet BTW). I got compiz on there working its magic and was wondering whether there was a 'flick' plugin. You know how when you're moving around windows on your desktop to a secondary desktop or monitor, you have to drag it over all the way, or right click and say move to next screen, etc. Why dont they have a plugin that allows you to flick the window. single click, gesture to a direction, and let go at the end of the gesture and watch your app fly off into your other desktop/screen. WHen you're working with a lot of horizontal realestate its a paint when you're rearranging things and have to move all the way from the left most edge to the right to drag something. I just want to throw things around. Give me dual mice and watch the fury unfold.

  • Altotus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I don't know what it's called, but if you look on YouTube you can find a demo of compiz fusion on a machine with a touch-screen and the user does just that, "flicks" the window (rapidly moves the window a short distance and lets go) and it flies off the edge of the screen and onto the adjacent face of the desktop cube.
  • mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I can confirm this, it affects the recently updated gutsy build of compiz too. One or more panels disappear on booting up, but clicking on their usual location brings them back. A minor annoyance.

    And I fail to see how Compiz Fusion is useless - it has a lot of accessibility functionality, and I find that visual feedback makes for a much better user experience, which equals more productivity (as long as you have the effects set fast enough)
