- mcmlxxii, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Compiz is not only pretty and funky but it _really_ helps with usability. Dugg.
- BeatPunchbeef, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29And you Vista guys can try all you want to justify spending $$ on a bloated, broken OS, but you will never get there.
- TheHydrogens, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19 He's right everyone, we will never be able to regress back to Vista...
- Mejogid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Compiz Fusion is the name of the community plug-ins for compiz. Version 0.6.0 of compiz fusion is not yet released, so the title is perfectly accurate.
- ssam, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14just submit a patch to microsoft. ...
oops, i forgot how it works for a second - rcarroll215, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14HA HA HA HA HA, HEE HEE HEE HEE, HA HA HA HA... oh man, whew, that was good!
oh wait, he was serious. - kevmaster, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13How to set it up in Feisty:
http://digg.com/linux_unix/A_Better_Compiz_Fusion_ ... - temujin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Beryl (Compiz Fusion) runs smoothly on my 5 year old laptop...
...while vista, with aero enabled, does not! - jer2eydevil88, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Why can't Windows be this cool?
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Also the good news for ATI card holders, 8.42 drivers will be AIGLX compatible so we can drop XGL and run smoother desktops. NO more messing around with Xorg editing, Session editing to get XGL to work.
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Heh, I had a guy walk into my place raving about Vista, walked out with a Gutsy CD in hand.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6LMAO
My family is begging me to put compiz on their machines.... - sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Windows != Linux
- mooninite, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6"8.42 drivers will be AIGLX compatible"
That has not been confirmed by ATI/AMD. It is still just a rumor. A rumor being spread from phoronix.com. - arandomgeek, on 02/24/2009, -0/+4At the risk of sounding like a Linux fan... Microsoft is run by a bunch of money hungry bastards who don't really care about what YOU want.
I feel so much better after getting that out. - rizla420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I recently got another 24" widescreen to complete the dual monitor setup (Saaweet BTW). I got compiz on there working its magic and was wondering whether there was a 'flick' plugin. You know how when you're moving around windows on your desktop to a secondary desktop or monitor, you have to drag it over all the way, or right click and say move to next screen, etc. Why dont they have a plugin that allows you to flick the window. single click, gesture to a direction, and let go at the end of the gesture and watch your app fly off into your other desktop/screen. WHen you're working with a lot of horizontal realestate its a paint when you're rearranging things and have to move all the way from the left most edge to the right to drag something. I just want to throw things around. Give me dual mice and watch the fury unfold.
- LinuxKitty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I never thought I'd go for eye candy and was always somewhat skeptical towards Compiz, but the cube and the ring feature sold me. Those really increase productivity. (And they're simply cool!)
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9announce @ http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2007- ...
oldie but a goodie @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUSn-jBA3CE
Now, *that's* computing. - bmorency, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3your link doesn't work.
- gavintlgold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Use xwinwrap :)
Exactly what you want. - daftman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3why? just set video playing in a window maximize and set that window to "keep below others"
- Altotus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I don't know what it's called, but if you look on YouTube you can find a demo of compiz fusion on a machine with a touch-screen and the user does just that, "flicks" the window (rapidly moves the window a short distance and lets go) and it flies off the edge of the screen and onto the adjacent face of the desktop cube.
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I can confirm this, it affects the recently updated gutsy build of compiz too. One or more panels disappear on booting up, but clicking on their usual location brings them back. A minor annoyance.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, don't forget to DL the Advanced Options Configuration in the main repos. Otherwise you can't tweak the advanced stuff.
- oderdigg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Windows = gei
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's in the repos.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like this one.....song is kind of catchy too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ImW0-MgR8I - cyberwiz01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I dont think the effect in that video was so much of a different plugin, just the friction on the wobbly windows plugin was set really low.
- SheriffJWPepper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3ATI will have AIGLX drivers this quarter sometime....it's assumed it will be 8.42.
"In Q4 2007, AMD’s Catalyst software package for Linux will add support for Accelerated Indirect GLX (AIGLX). AIGLX is an enabling technology that allows Linux users to enjoy a rich visual 3D user interface that provides a more immersive end-user compute experience."
http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/in ... - twljagflba, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4The video plug-in looks most interesting in this release.
- CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2reduce the friction of wobbly windows and play around with the K value. can be annoying at first, but it works :D
- tripzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Burried as inaccurate. My 3yr old laptop run maybe minutes shorter when running compiz and I get more done in that amount of time because of the productivity it adds.
- mahler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm sorry that link should be: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2007- ...
The link breaks down after editing... - srg13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow - you must have really messed something up if your GPU is running anywhere near that for desktop effects...
And I fail to see how Compiz Fusion is useless - it has a lot of accessibility functionality, and I find that visual feedback makes for a much better user experience, which equals more productivity (as long as you have the effects set fast enough) - ptFoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2videos or it didn't happen
- AlgnPelotudo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2you forgot 'drm crippled'
- armo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Do you mean shift+ctrl+alt+left or right but with mouse gestures?
- galleryfront, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1whoa whoa whoa.... is this going to slow the official release of Gutsy Gibbon? Screw oct. 31st, I'm counting down to october 18th!
- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1search youtube you lazy ***** :p
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For those wondering, seems like there is not much difference from 0.5.3 that comes with Gutsy right now.
- oderdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what about us Gutsy users?
- ptFoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought only upto Compiz 0.53 will wok on Ubuntu because of new feature that was implemented
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If the new version is a security, bugfix, or stability release (e.g., Release candidate to final), I think the Ubuntu devs will update it. I'm sure there will be repos, otherwise.
- arobar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Learn what you're talking about before posting.
- tripzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Compiz Fusion is simply amazing. Anyone who thinks that vista comes close is smoking something. OSx comes close but still not close enough, not even with leopard.
- DontEatTheFish, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3they are still missing the 3d plugin
- JrGhoull, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1at the risk of sounding like a windows fan...the vista ultimate edition allows u to have video for your background. i really hope compiz will have this soon.
