- kd420, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4It's really hard for a company to "compete" with Linux, since Linux is only accepted passively. Companies try to make you think they're product is better, but Linux just keeps chugging along, oblivious. That's why I believe it will eventually take over, because it spreads by word of mouth and needs no advertising money. It seems like people only convert one way, because MS is so big, and so many people have computers already, they can't get that many more customers, so they try to keep the ones they have.
MS and Apple have the lionshare of the market only because they got their feet in the door first and made sure the masses didn't hear about Linux. But at the rate that Ubuntu alone is climbing, and the huge selling point that it is free, I can see Linux surpassing other OS's soon (yeah I know "soon" is vague, but I'm no expert to set a date).
