Why must everything the Chinese do involve lead? - svensko, on 08/16/2008, -4/+33I wonder if they block the websites of distros they don't like.
- SmokedL, on 08/16/2008, -0/+24Yeah, totally.
Here we have a business model:
1. That allows free competition by anyone.
That's exactly like in communism where everything is owned by the state, and competition is illegal.
2. That has been adopted to various degrees by most of the big software players in the worlds open markets.
That's exactly like in communism where there are no free markets, no competition and no profits.
3. That quickly weeds out the non-performers while letting those that actually produce quality services flourish.
That's just like communism where everyone is allocated resources equally regardless of skill or level of contribution. - ronaldmonster, on 08/16/2008, -4/+18These comments suck.
- GorfTron, on 08/16/2008, -1/+15Goodbye, IT career...
- hugolp, on 08/16/2008, -0/+14Leave open source out of politics. Open source allows anyone to use it from nazis, religious, capitalist, comunist, fascist, democrats... Anyone can use Open Source. There is a nazi open source distribution, that doesnt mean open source is nazi. There are some rusian open source distributions and that doesnt mean open source is comunist (as if Russia can be called comunist this days), there are several capitalist based country distributions, and doesnt mean open source is capitalist. There are even religious open source distribution, and that doesnt mean open source is religious.
Open Source is a tool and is proven itself the best tool to develop software and the future of software development. Anyone with any political idea can use that tool. And that doesnt mean that tool belong to a politic group. Saying Open Source is .............. (put your political option here) is as stupid as saying machines are ............ (put your political option here). Open Source is only a software development tool regardless of who uses it. - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -6/+20Oh noes,
Digg hates China
Digg loves Linux and open source.
Digg's HEAD ASPLODE! - SuperMoses, on 08/16/2008, -0/+13Venezuela has already done this:
http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/news/827
But they're having issues because M$ is flexing their muscle:
"Proprietary software companies such as Microsoft Corp., have tried to stop the adoption of Open Source software by various governments around the world. Last November, the Initiative for Software Choice, a coalition backed by big industry giants such as Microsoft and Intel, sent a letter to the Director of the Office of Information Technology at the Ministry of Science and Technology, Arturo Gallegos, warning the Venezuelan government against adopting Open Source software." - mynameistux, on 08/16/2008, -3/+14***** THE RI... oh, right, umm
go china! - jayrok, on 08/16/2008, -4/+14That's the only "open" anything to make its way out of China.
- rolf, on 08/16/2008, -0/+10China pretty much isn't communist in anything but name these days. It adopted capitalism full on with some government owned industries and it's government just happens to be authoritarian/dictatorial. Which can pretty much happen under any economic system.
- DerangedPenguin, on 08/16/2008, -4/+10sigh sad state of affairs, while the NEA wastes billions on teaching children that it is OK for Heather to have two mommies and 6th graders what a vagina and penis are and how good ethnic diversity is, China is teaching its children how to do useful things.
- joshualamgroup, on 08/16/2008, -1/+7Hey, at least China doesn't block access to thepiratebay.org, unlike Italy..
- Stonekeeper, on 08/16/2008, -0/+6"the Initiative for Software Choice" sends a letter "warning the Venezuelan government against adopting Open Source software."
*HEAD ASPLODES* - santaliqueur, on 08/16/2008, -0/+5Nobody thinks you are funny, that is why you are being dugg down. Get some new material.
http://www.neaveru.com/digg/stats/xxGamerKidxx/max ... - Meatshield, on 08/16/2008, -2/+7Can we get this in the US minus the censorship please? I'd love to take some of these courses they speak of, but I don't know Chinese!
- sk11, on 08/16/2008, -2/+7Hu Jintao uses windows vista, OMGZ why is windows supporting evil communist dictators?? :P
- sk11, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4No one in my family uses vista you lying *****.
- filefly, on 08/16/2008, -2/+5Actually, there's RedOffice too... http://www.johannes-eva.net/index.php?page=redoffi ...
- aenegeling, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4Your sentence makes a strange sound in my head..
- croma, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3If Linux adoption in China gets big then I could see it supplanting Windows (world wide) as the OS of choice on new boxes. That being said, time for all you techs with MS certs. to get an LPIC or RHC.
Linux FTW. - DestroyFascism, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3[Neal] Wow that's heavy....
- tomarocco, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3...and accept a 75% pay cut.
- 4321234, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Moot. You can't see it outside the U.S. anyway.
- yuanzhoulu, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Open-source Linux IS communism in its purest form: *everything you do is common property for the benefit of everyone*. That said, communism is not necessarily bad. It's a bad way to run a government or economy and is a bad thing to force on everyone, but communism works great when it is voluntary, such as open-source projects, monasteries, or community service missions, and is also the way many immediate families work.
The bottom line is that communism works (and is often the natural tendency) when peoples' caring for others' well-being supersedes their greediness for wealth. When this situation arises communism naturally falls into place. There is nothing bad about this sort of communism. - dougle, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4No scientologists though, keep away from my distro you nut bags.
- DestroyFascism, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Not if you keep up...
- Atomic1fire, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3How do you know that all development is in house, Microsoft could have just as easily put part of vistas development in a cheaper area and then just worked on the more important parts in america, then synced it all so no one would notice
- martalli, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Maybe because when 1.3 billion people start doing something, they pretty quickly outnumber everyone else doing it... Even if 1% of the Chinese are fooling with Linux, it would take 4-5% of Americans to be fooling with it to outnumber the Chinese.
- martalli, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2That's worth a digg of its own...
- DestroyFascism, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Agree.
I see nothing so far of contribution, outcomes, constructive arguments and possibilities. I see allot of ***** innuendo though. - nrox653, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3Massive piracy in China = Reason why open source dominates
So um... When will we be seeing open source software sold for high prices in the black market? - martalli, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Russia isn't Communist - Russia is simply nakedly authoritarian.
- marine63, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3linux = democratic free to share free to change free to everything
- ethana2, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Heh, same here. With the exception of one sister who uses XP, my entire family is basically Ubuntu-only.
- P5ycHo, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1yada yada yada
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1I suggest you read up on what communism is son. (probably most of you need to do it). Get your 'ism definitions right before spouting *****.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1LINUX FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111
- seamustry, on 08/16/2008, -1/+2hopefully they have full coverage of the olympics on TV, otherwise they won't be able to see in on nbcolympics.com on linux
- martalli, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Of course, everyone knows that a community of volunteers working to create something for everyone is unamerican.
- mrigns, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1You should read what the GPL states. It forces people to share, while I think that's a good thing it's definitely not what people would refer to as freedom.
Freedom isn't always a good thing, especially not when it means you're free to screw other people. - 4321234, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1If it's just cuzza silverlight, install the firefox moonlight plugin.
- DerangedPenguin, on 08/16/2008, -2/+2so why did atomicfire get dugg down? Here in America if you design a better shovel to shovel *****, then people will buy the shovel and shovel *****, You can stop shoving *****, get rich and watch other people shovel ***** with your shovel. In Communism, you design a better shovel, the state manufactures the better shovel, you get to shovel more ***** with your shovel and someone in the Politburo gets rich buys a dacha on the Black Sea and drinks good vodka and curses at the Georgians. All the while you continue to shovel *****.
- joshualamgroup, on 08/16/2008, -1/+1Your mum uses WIndows Vista, is she evil as well?
- BforBusiness, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1hundreds of thousands? in a country of 1.6 billion? WOW!
- ethana2, on 08/16/2008, -0/+0seamustry: did you miss the Digg article about that just the other day? Turns out we don't even have to use a web browser. Silverlight is just the endpoint technology, streaming video is streaming video.
- wukillabee, on 08/16/2008, -1/+1thats cool..
http://www.neaveru.com/digg/stats/wukillabee - seamustry, on 08/16/2008, -0/+0speaking of watching in the US...i can't because i used linux :(
