  • kd420, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1An alternate way is to compile the splash file from source, if provided. You need "libusplash-dev" and of course "startupmanager". Get the source, make, and make install and it should work.
    Unfortunately, not all splashes come with the source (the one I liked on gnome look didn't) so I downloaded the default theme source, and modified it to my liking.
