- TheShad0w, on 06/15/2009, -1/+58On the file open and file save dialog. The file name field is highlighted but doesn't have focus. This is ANNOYING.
- abbathdoom, on 06/15/2009, -1/+589.10 sounds like it is shaping up to be a slick release, now Canonical is finally putting money behind usabability, appearance, and general first impressions of Ubuntu.
- Stradenko, on 06/15/2009, -2/+46Improved usability through tackling? Those Canonical guys have some weird ideas.
- davebsd, on 06/15/2009, -1/+42Hey, this sounds like a great paper cut, but Digg is not Ubuntu's bug tracker -- can you please check the link below for more info on reporting paper cuts. I will triage your bug as soon as you report it, and hopefully fix this for Karmic.

Thanks,
David - twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2009, -1/+36Fix Horizontal Icon alignment!!!
- 2matrix, on 06/15/2009, -8/+36As a long time Windows user since it's inception, I have one thing to say, God I love Ubuntu.....
- TimtheTaxMan, on 06/15/2009, -0/+28I think that's only because most people have never heard of it. Other than gamers, I think Ubuntu would cover the needs of 95% of average users.
- kkiran, on 06/15/2009, -2/+28Looking forward to the 10 second boot time in 10.04!
- InorganicMatter, on 06/15/2009, -0/+24Nice to see the GNOME-Do dev joining Canonical. They need the new blood in the HID department, and he's the perfect one for the job.
Really speaks volumes when there's several distros out there whose sole feature is "We fix Ubuntu's interface problems!" - TheShad0w, on 06/15/2009, -1/+25Well, thanks for your constructive criticisms I'll be sure to note them in the next developers meeting.
- TimtheTaxMan, on 06/15/2009, -0/+23It’s free, basically virus free, runs on older computers well, and very intuitive for the most part. The only thing it lacks is support for gaming.
- trogdoor, on 06/15/2009, -0/+22If you can remove the requirement to pay royalties I am sure they will add it in a heartbeat. Note that with most OEM Ubuntu installs the manufacturer ( i.e. Dell ) pays royalties for mp3 support ( included in the price of the PC ) and does include it "right out of the box".
- UKsHaDoW, on 06/15/2009, -0/+20I'm pretty sure linux is developed by corporations like oracle, ibm, redhat, google, maybe sun?
- Feanor, on 06/15/2009, -0/+20I would digg you up a billion times, this is my most frustrating bug.
- zulfy26, on 06/15/2009, -1/+18It's little things about Ubuntu that really push me away from using it as my main OS. Hopefully these fixes and the upcoming fast boot can change my mind.
- davebsd, on 06/15/2009, -0/+16We have already registered this as a paper cut: http://blog.davebsd.com/2009/06/10/one-hundred-pap ...
Should be fixed for Karmic!
Thanks,
David - TimtheTaxMan, on 06/15/2009, -1/+17I don’t hate Microsoft. I think their operating systems have been pretty good over the years. I use Windows on two out of my three computers. I use Ubuntu on an older laptop because it runs well and does everything I need on that computer. (I don’t do any gaming on it.)
- TimtheTaxMan, on 06/15/2009, -0/+16To each their own I guess. I like it.
- waspbr, on 06/15/2009, -0/+15RTFA
This is not a distro update, this is the announcement of a project to smooth out the most common bugs out of ubuntu. - NTolerance, on 06/15/2009, -3/+18Mounting via fstab needs to go away IMHO. Use gvfs-mount. Doesn't require root access and samba passwords aren't stored in plaintext like with CIFS/fstab.
- cawpin, on 06/15/2009, -0/+15Ubuntu Studio.
- themusicalduck, on 06/15/2009, -2/+16I love the way canonical engage with their users and the community on a whole. Has Microsoft ever done anything like this with Windows?
- Stingwolf, on 06/15/2009, -1/+15I've had no stability problems, there's plenty of support, and I have no idea what a "professional" operating system even means. If, by unprofessional, you mean free, then yes, and I count that as a plus.
- TheShad0w, on 06/15/2009, -1/+14Normally I overlook grammar and spelling. Its just not that important to me. Yours however, is atrocious.
- TheShad0w, on 06/15/2009, -0/+13Done and done. It appears to have been reported in the past.
- waspbr, on 06/15/2009, -0/+12down fanboy, down.
good boy - robertisaar, on 06/15/2009, -0/+12compared to windows 3.1/95/98/Me/XP/Vista Home Premium, i have had very few issues with ubuntu
- CptnEvilStomper, on 06/15/2009, -0/+12The one that annoys me most is trying to re-order items in the Main Menu. The item is placed in a completely different spot depending on whether you're dragging it up or down from its original position.
- mithrasinvictus, on 06/15/2009, -1/+13That's hardly a problem. On your first attempt you get a dialog that fixes the support for you and takes less work than starting ms office for the first time.
- Voxxov, on 06/15/2009, -0/+11If you're going to make statements calling other people dumb, first try to not confuse "Your" with "You're"......
- Blajano, on 06/16/2009, -0/+11The next release is gonna kick ass
- Elranzer, on 06/15/2009, -0/+11iOSX is a troll account. Do not respond to it. Just bury it and report it.
- alethes1973, on 06/16/2009, -0/+10Will this process also be applied to Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc? I love Kubuntu, but I'm sure it could benefit from this same sort of attention.
- themusicalduck, on 06/15/2009, -0/+10Yeah, so they release a beta with the ability to provide feedback.. That's a fairy standard thing. Canonical are asking for people's opinions to influence and improve the next release, not just report bugs and comment on a current beta. It's great that Microsoft are doing what they might not have before but Canonical are more engaging still.
- robertisaar, on 06/15/2009, -0/+10ass pirate known as iOSX: we don't care about your fanboy rants, quit providing them for us to bury.
- x713, on 06/15/2009, -0/+10Windows opening in the correct desktop? Are you using the same thing operating system I use?
- fiddler616, on 06/15/2009, -0/+9A mere $29...plus $1500 for the exclusive hardware.
- Blajano, on 06/16/2009, -0/+8They already have.
- JeSTeRSeVeN, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8That sounds like a perfect "papercut" to report. It seems exactly the type of bug they are looking for in this initiative.
- PsychoBrat, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8This project is likely to have significant cross-distribution benefits.
And in case you hadn't noticed, Digg *is* a popularity contest. So if people are sufficiently interested, then yes, "every ***** update of this distro [has] to be Dugg".
If you have a problem with that, then your problem is with Digg -- not Ubuntu. - chr00t, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8I had wireless problems with wireless on my laptop when I first tried Intrepid. I had wireless working fine in Fedora, then I tried Ubuntu intrepid & wireless didnt work out of the box.
I resolved it by installing "Wicd" instead of Network Manager. When I upgraded to Ubuntu Jaunty, Network Manager worked right away. - sigmaman2, on 06/15/2009, -2/+10I'm looking for flicker-free boot and fingerprint reader support in 9.10 (Fedora already has them). Forget rock-solid. With these little usability tweaks, 9.10 will be diamond-solid.
- robfrye, on 06/15/2009, -0/+8I've often wished I could tackle users
- TheDatabit, on 06/15/2009, -4/+11How about adding some focus on audio? Decent across the board sound support for garage studios is pretty much non existent but I think there is a huge market there for broke musicians.
- Flamekebab, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7Unsupported? Not even remotely true - there's even full-on paid support available)
Unprofessional? With well over ten million users, including several governments, I'd not say that was true.
Unstable?
Wait. UNSTABLE?
Sorry, are we talking about the same operating system?
The only time the heavily used desktop/media server in my flat goes down is when there's a powercut. The stability of *nix-based systems is legendary.
Was there even an iota of logic or sense in those statements, macapplejobs? - KloroFormd, on 06/15/2009, -2/+9What wireless chipset?
Did you ask in Ubuntu Forums? - aethralis, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/ ... - marked as fix released.
But for me the issue is not fixed, though I'm using Jaunty. Copy-paste from the bug report -> As stated, it's no longer a problem if you open the dialog and type a filename directly. The problem happens when you navigate to another folder using the GtkTreeView. The text in the filename box remains highlighted, but when you attempt to type over it, you wind up entering text into the GtkTreeView filter. At the very least, the filename box text should be grayed out or deselected, to convey that it needs to be refocused in order to be edited. - billalbertson, on 06/15/2009, -1/+8About. Freakin'. Time.
- DeeBeeOh, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6Heh, I wrote Docky ;)
Seriously though, its not the ONLY thing I wrote, I wrote all the interfaces, as well as large swaths of the core functionality and several plugins. Don't put me down as the docky guy, it's not fair =P That said, Docky is clearly not for everyone. I am sorry you don't like it, I do really try to make it fun and likeable. However it sounds like a more traditional interface would be your cup of tea.
DBO - gnoshme, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6Once again I'm pleasantly surprised by the people making decisions behind this great distro. 9.04 is superb.
